Author Topic: Would Martin Luther King Day exist if he never got assassinated?  (Read 980 times)

Like honest opinion.

If Martin Luther King never got assassinated would we even be celebrating him to this day? How different would the world be?

If someone went back in time to prevent his death would this in turn make the future worse? They would have shrugged off Martin as a crazy black man but after his assassination he was labeled as a martyr and a hero.

not this day, probably not a holiday itself.

I think he'd still be important
but maybe not have his own day

Probably, but most likely not this day. He was one of the most influential people during the civil rights movement so I don't see why not.

But all those other people in the civil rights movement just get crammed together in Black History Month.

MLK day stands out on its own.

There were a lot of important blacks in history, MLK may have gotten his own day but likely not today.

You see its actually a big plot. He paid to have himself killed so he could get a holiday.

Malcolm X was assassinated and we don't have a specific day for him. Maybe MLK's assassination encouraged awareness of his civil rights actions to motivate a holiday, but both men were pivotal in the encouragement of racial equality.

My school never taught me anything about Malcolm X, just MLK.

Malcolm X was an extremest pretty much. MLK was for peaceful protest, X was for brute force.

People who voted yes are dumb lol.

Even if he wasnt killed, he would be alive today and they wouldnt give a holiday in honour of a living person anyways lol.

It wouldn't make any sense for him to have a holiday after him if he was still alive.

He only has one because he was a martyr.

he has one because he was assassinated. this showed how big of an impact he had on the civil rights movement, and he became a martyr for minorities in america. he'd still be alive if he wasnt shot (assuming he didnt die of some disease) so he probably wouldnt have a holiday
