Author Topic: What the forget is with the letter C?  (Read 2941 times)

I thought K was supposed to be a harsher sound than C

Also if it disapperead how would you replace the CH digraph?

I was going to ask why does W exist.

It's the only letter in the alphabet that is pronounced differently.

A as in "Ae"

B as in "Be"

C as in "Ce"

W as in "Double U"

yeah and it's not even two U's, it's two V's

and no before anyone says it it's not "duvayou".

The letter "w" makes no loving sense.

Why the forget does almost the entire world pronounce W as double U or double V.
Why not 'We' like normal people
And whats with double u
IT DOESNT EVEN LOOK LIKE A U

In many germanic languages V has a very close usage to W, say "I vant a cupcake" and you'll see why. It's name is 'double-u' because in latin it was written as uu so that the sound w makes could be distinguished from the sounds made by the letters v and u

there's a wikipedia article about the letter "W" lol

yeah this describes it much better than I can

W is currently the only English letter whose name is not pronounced with any of the sounds that the letter typically makes.

I was literally planning on making a topic about the letter W way before this topic was made but I was beaten to the punch lol.

Gay

That stuff is old
We should modernise (is thay even a word lol)

C actually does have a unique sound but it requires the presence of H to form the 'chuh' sound at the beginning of words like Church and Challenge. Without C there would be no way to make the sound difference between Chan and Khan.
i think we could live without being able to say chan

Why is M not "upside down double U" or "Mirrored N?"

i think we could live without being able to say chan
Yeah
