World of Tanks is the first game in the Wargaming trilogy. It focuses on tanks (duh), tank destroyers, and SPGs (Self Propelled Guns). Unlike its sequels World of Tanks puts a much bigger role on strategy.
System Requirements
I don't feel like filling this out but you should be able to play it if you have any computer new enough it can run windows 7. My pc is crap and can run this. I will fill this out upon request if you really want to be 100% positive and see for yourself you can run it.

Tank Types
Light Tanks: Light tanks are the eyes of a team. Most light tanks have light armor, low health, and a weak gun which means going head to head with anything other than a light tank is Self Delete. They make up for their flaws however with speed and maneuverability making them the ideal scouts as well as artillery hunters.
Medium Tanks: Medium tanks are the jack of all trades. They can be used for almost anything whether it be scouting or defending, unfortunately because of this they are worse at any task. This may be a deterrent but keep in mind this means you can shift your focus to wherever it is needed and you might just be the extra push needed to ensure victory for your team. Medium tanks are best used as a front to second line support.
Heavy Tanks: With the largest health pool and strongest armor these tanks are sponges for shells, this comes at a price however. Heavy tanks are slow and incredibly bad at maneuvering meaning that half the match will be just getting to the battle. Once at the battle this tank will be the main focus of enemy fire so watch out if you choose to play as one.
Tank Destroyers: A tank destroyers armor, speed, and health pool varies from TD to TD but one thing remains constant: big gun. Tank destroyers are the snipers of the tank world and will often times serve best far away. The guns are accurate and do a ton of damage with high entry. So why should you stay back? Most tank destroyers don't have turrets and thus have to rotate the entire tank to shoot outside of a certain distance left or right which leaves the tank exposed. On top of this a tracked TD is an easy target for anyone, even a light tank. Some tank destroyers actually have a turret but as previously stated most do not.
SPG (Artillery): The only thing with a more powerful gun than a tank destroyer is an SPG, but don't hurry into battle with one just yet. SPG are mostly slow and have the lightest armor because they are designed for long range. When entering sniper mode instead of a view though the barrel you will get an aerial view which will allow you to aim farther away. An unfortunate characteristic of SPG is that they are sometimes inaccurate but when a shot hits you are almost always guaranteed a critical hit or if the vehicle has light armor a destruction. Be careful as SPG are prime targets for scouts.

Tips and Tricks
Stay on the move: Unless you are an SPG or Tank Destroyer you will be spotted by other tanks. You might be tempted to stop and aim your gun but that is Self Delete. An immobile tank is a prime target for enemy SPG. Only stop moving when you have cover to protect from SPG and the nearby tanks.
Scout: While it might seem like avoiding battle is a bad idea it really isn't. Scouting for your team allows an SPG to see where enemy tanks are and fire on them. You also get a bit of xp for hits on a tank you spotted.
Hide: If you are in a Tank Destroyer or SPG you will need to go into a bush or tree to stay hidden. You can still be found while in a bush but the range is much shorter than when out in the open.
Track em: Tracking is when you break the track on an enemy tank thus immobilizing them. Hitting the tracks at the front or back has the highest chance of tracking. A tracked target is often times the best target.
Peek a boo: Use cover to your advantage and pop in and out to avoid getting hit while you fire back. Useful for tanks with low gun depression

nobody talks about their second game

nobody talks about their second game
I like it but I can see why others don't like it

WHY DO YOU LIKE IT
WARTHUNDER IS SO MUCH BETTER

WHY DO YOU LIKE IT
WARTHUNDER IS SO MUCH BETTER
because war thunder runs like stuff on my computer unless I make the graphics ugly as crap

You need to add in the peek a boo trick which is use angled cover and pop up every so often to take a pot shot at an enemy (most effective with low gun depressions. Ex. The AMX CDC)
Add me in the op: PC only. Tankblaster9000 is my IGN

name Jubel on NA server
professional ELC AMX player (legitimately) and I am also a resident good goy

soon I will get those damn purple recents.

I also have a lot of premium tanks. :) (ignoring the rentals obv)

Not sure how I forgot that tactic considering it is one of my most common ones

Ignore the stats on them, I don't play premium tanks very often/very well.

Tokkers on EU, I main E-50M & Jagdtiger and fight to keep above 1850 WN8

doesnt this game rig stats ingame so everyone's a "mediocre" player

sometimes you just can't win no matter how much times you hit the enemy straight on, other times you wreck the enemy team and feel good.

If that were the case then everyone's WN8 would be the same

there apparently is considerable controversy - a simple google search brings up sites in more reputable sources. I actually had to explicitly set up my google search for that blog post since that was the one that I first read that made me quit WoT for mobile.
the explanation for not all winrates being 50% is that certain tanks can't get rigged - marder for example (in the first post in the series i linked) has insane entry stats and you can't really say "oh it deflected" when hitting light tanks. anything else is up for grabs.

I had a suspicious feeling that my win/lose streaks were being rigged and so having my suspicions confirmed through other players + some data meant that i got turned off from the game. It might have changed since then (a lot of the posts originate in 2013), in which case i guess you should just disregard my post

this (longer) post has more data alongside a basic review of WoT and other tank games: http://lightquick.co.uk/world-of-tanks-is-the-matchmaker-rigged.html?Itemid=252

I have literally no doubt in my mind that these are nothing but conspiracy theories. RNG is a powerful thing and WoT would not be the first game that I have felt it to a degree where I have been left with the impression that it's rigged. The feeling isn't exclusive to competitive online gaming, either.

No matter how much data these people can conjure up it will always be a theory based upon coincidence and nothing more

all the more power to you then. i suppose any game that involves matchmaking is leaving itself open to be accused of rigging - the idea of matchmaking itself is rigging, in a sense.

i'd ask what other games you've thought/felt were being rigged, but that's not really related to this and would just serve to extend the discussion beyond necessary. I guess just leave this as the last post on the subject and carry on about WoT itself.

I do like the way the game is set up - the graphics are nice and the satisfaction of getting kills/winning rounds is pretty high despite the fact the game isn't particularly unique or innovative in terms of gameplay.
