Do you promote permanent banning?

When people are very annoying and bothering others I perma ban them. Most of the time if someone is just getting on my nerves I give them a 10 minute ban. Every 6 months or so I clear out my perma bans.

however usually a mute works just fine since that's usually the generality of the rule being broken

on my own server I wipe my ban list like almost weekly to monthly most of my bans are like an hour long (on my own server)
I am more strict and make sure to adhere to the rules on another server and ban based on the standards set for said server, but generally always try to work the problem out before banning anyone

Probably if they have a long and recent history of being a problem.

but even then they'd have to cause problems on my server to be banned at all

Depends, if they try to ruin the server by hacking or getting admin, or doing other things to ruin it or just break lots of rules, then I perma ban, but if it's like, they just tell the host they're gay as a joke, then no, not a permanent ban.

If someone is actively being a twat and shows no sign of stopping even after being warned, I will absolutely ban their asses on the spot permanently (unless the superadmins have different plans ie "ban this guy for three days")

If someone said "stuff excuse me i thought you were supposed to beat people with canes", they're reasonable enough to negotiate without resorting to drasticass banning.

And every problem is that easy to solve...

Its not my job to teach people how to behave. Warnings, kicks, temp bans... I dont see the purpose. If people dont wanna build and get along, then gtfo blockland.

i always permaban, if ppl want to be unbanned, they post on our clan page
-> if you dont take time to make an unban request, its because you dont want to be unbanned.
