Apparently grills are incapable of coding.

Path said that this is designed for grills who don't code (aka people who don't give a stuff about coding anyway).

Don't you get it? The code was in you, all along.

i know more female coders than male coders tbh

If this pisses you off so much, maybe you should visit code.org

I think the word "coding" has gained a new definition where it's basically the same as application and handling of information.

“Our children — including our girls — need the opportunity to learn computer science.”

The first quote I see immediately pisses me off.

The website's in Finnish for me, so it says "Information application" instead of computer science or anything like that.

Is that what computer science has been all along?

Computer Science =/= Coding

Coding is just one tool that computer scientists can use. Computer Science is all about math (mainly stuff like statistics and logarithms) and logic. Harvard's CS50 is a good place to go if you want to see more about this.

Most people who code are not, and do not want, to be computer scientists.

Congratulations, you called a function.

tbh this stuff is for small children, but this is honestly very misleading. It is interesting though because it's a way to separate the successes from the failures early on.

Did I mention this is used to teach children "coding" in primary schools in Finland?

continue. finish the meme.

don't go to legoland tomorrow if you live in the northwest

no offense to any women in the industry, I really think we need more females, but the problem I feel with "getting girls into code" is that we're literally using other stereotypes to do it with

like we're trying to get women into code by going "look at these dresses light up" or by making everything nice, pink and "girly"

seriously, don't get me wrong, even as a gay guy I feel like there should be more women in code, but the way people are introducing it really bugs me - breaking stereotypes with stereotypes doesn't seem very productive

also as said a while back, knowing scratch or whatever doesn't really make you a programmer, so why companies think that you can go "omg i'm a programmer" when all you know is scratch blows my mind

when I was 11, I didn't even know scratch existed, my dad just gave me a couple textbooks and I'm like "cool" so I learned it myself - code academy and "code.org" weren't around

also, just saw McJob's quote, didn't even see the quote he quoted

“Our children — including our girls — need the opportunity to learn computer science.”

The first quote I see immediately pisses me off.

we need to stop saying opportunity and more of removal of social stigma/encouragement to learn computer science; most girls don't care or think that you're a total dork if you know how to program

because I'm pretty certain every girl has the opportunity (in the first world) to program, it's just that they don't want to (pretty average imo of most people) or everyone around them is like "people who do computers are creepy men"

-snip-
He was quoting www.code.org 's header, which i refered to in an earlier post

a website to learn actual coding for 100% beginners is http://www.codecademy.com
the main problem though is that they don't really explain you how can use these languages outside of their website, so you'll be forced to look at a second source.

it's where i learned decent javascript--surprisingly similar to torque--in just a month or so.

tbh if you can code youre way cooler in my eyes
