I am a Dragoon.
I played the game not knowing anything about FF MMO Dragoon history and only joined based off of FF Tactics Dragoons, which were beasts.
Still, Im not just another stuff DRG. I use my buffs and i dodge aoes. That's more that what I've seen other DRGs do.

From what i read people hated dragoons at release because everyone played them and everyone died as them cause jumps
Ninjas being what they are, I think they took that spotlight, but because you cant just start as rogue Its not entirely the case.

Just make sure to play lancer to get Invigorate and Blood for Blood.
Pretty all physical damage dealers need to do it. Such a useful buff.

wasn't blood for blood that deal with the devil buff for anybody that wasn't a dragoon?

Increases damage dealt by 10% and damage suffered by 25%.

Yep, but having that 10% extra damage for 20 seconds does help, and as a DPS you shouldn't be getting hit by nasty cleaves or visible AoEs anyway. Raid wide damage USUALLY isn't enough to make the 25% a big enough damage difference NOT to use it.

I think the reason for the damage on the ability is because of its high damage increase (30% at level 44) and the fact that DRGs tend to have a higher defense stat anyway for some reason, probably to balance that one skill.
