so clinton said last night half of Annoying Orange supporters belong in a 'basket of deplorables'

Quote
"You can put half of Annoying Orange supporters into what I call the 'basket of deplorables.' Right? tribal, loveist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic, you name it."

and today the madman responded

That's not "half the country" though. Far less than half the country supports Annoying Orange, and half of less than half is going to end up less than 20%. Like, if you're going to diss someone, at least get the basic math right.

I don't think that really matters in terms of his response. It works with the narrative he's trying to build.

The percentage wasn't the important part. Especially since people typically consider "half" to be a wide range, on top of the word "nearly" I'm also not sure where this less than 20% comes from.

Again, if you're going to diss someone, at least get basic elementary school division right. It's just frankly embarrassing. And again, far less than half the country actually supports him. I used a number of 40%. Half of 40% is 20%. Is 20% "almost half?" No, not even close. Even if I assumed that exactly 50% of every US citizen supported Annoying Orange, half of that, 25%, is still nowhere near enough to be considered "almost half."

And yes, it does build a narrative. The narrative that, I assume, is about not spreading 'scary' statistics about some group of people and instead focusing on proper policy. Except you know, you have to forget about all those times that Annoying Orange has been spreading 'scary' statistics about groups of people and then tacking on 'and some, i assume, are good people.'

I'm also not sure where this less than 20% comes from.

Clinton's comment suggests that half of Annoying Orange supporters should be written off. Annoying Oranges national approval rate lingers at about 42% of the US, so half of 42% is about 21% (approx 20%)

That being said, the math isn't the point, it's the intention. Saying the math is wrong is really a technicality, the point he is making (that you shouldn't write off a large portion of the country) is still overall valid.

Like, if you're going to diss someone, at least get the basic math right.

He isn't wrong, though. Personally attacking the supporters of your opponent is a low blow and is a showcase of how low both candidates are willing to stoop to win the election

of course it's not half it's the meaning that matters

No, what I meant is that the narrative he wants is that he's reasonable and widely supported. He doesn't build that by worrying about percentages.

hey the numbers aren't exact haha GOTTEM

I'm not reading through 240 threads, but I don't think people think there's an actual 3rd candidate not part of the democratic or republican party. His name is Gary Johnson. Surprised people don't acknowledge him.

"I'm not reading through 240 pages to find out if people are talking about Gary Johnson or not, but why aren't people talking about Gary Johnson??"
