while i can't find much of a real 'source' for this i'd recommend giving a bit of a look about the summaries/epilogue area for the book 'wedge' which gives some insight on the rivalry that was between the CIA and FBI

it was also the CIA/FBI rivalry that was one of the contributing factors to 9/11, but after that it does seem like a lot of it has died down despite some of the more 'traditional' views of each other seem to have stayed, so there is a chance that some form of competition is still going on between the two, but i'm not really one to make that type of conclusion
