We do need to be wary for the creeping tentacles of nihilism and authoritarianism. These are critical times, and if we allow the wrong people to take power and exercise that power, society as we know it can come crumbling down.
I greatly feel that the time is right for a spiritual and moral awakening with the world. Our weapons of war, our capacity to change the world dramatically for better or worse, and our overall technological prowess as grown to exponentially to the point of grave danger. But our morals died with rise the Age of Reason. So we are like toddlers with this massive amount of potential for destruction, or rather, chimpanzees, our closest relative.
However, I have the sneaking suspicion that the time for that was long ago. A nation can die 20 years before the corpse falls over. The Soviet Union was a shambling corpse of its former self until it died in 1991. I fear that the same has already happened to much of the West, however I do not think we'll see the body drop for a while.
