I'll get the rope
le pen didn't win tho. that 22% is close to their entire userbase. I'd imagine they won't even get above 35% in the finals.

It's extremely close, some other organism says total "ex aequo" (equally placed) for both candidates at 23%

i think modern republican politicians actually just want the worst for everybody at this point

i can't help but agree with this

right, now I'm not French but I can speak at this from a US perspective. since neither got 50% it reverts to a 2-way vote. the more radical candidate (in this case penn) usually gets a serious majority of their potential users in the primary, while the more moderate candidate's in this case macron) potential userbase is divided among a bunch of different candidates. when it comes to a 1/1 the vast majority (especially muslims and other minorities) will side with macron while le penn will gain much less support since her radical followers already voted for her. that's why I doubted she could make it above 35% in a 2-way and will likely lose. if her polling now was at 35% or 40% that would be more worrisome but at about 20% she'd need a massive jump in support I don't think she could pull off.

this was also the case in the 2016 election, but since hillary clinton is an infinitely more stuffty candidate that macron and the US has an electoral college allowing candidates not democratically chosen to win it was flipped.

interesting, via this metric was also how Bernie Sanders recevied the largest vote percentage in Oklahoma even among conservative candidates. They were so divided among all their stuffty right-candidates that when 50% of dems voted for Bernie he actually came out in the lead.

i can't help but agree with this
lol yea. it's not a coincidence its popular in states with historically terrible education. the cringiest argument is when people are like 'THE SLAVE OWNERS WERE DEMOCRATS YOU KNOW! LINCOLN WAS A REPUBLICAN!' not realizing that the parties switched and inadvertenly comparing themselves to plantation owners lol

I'm totally ready for anarcho-capitalism at this point tbh.

in what world is that preferable

also incredibly unlikely considering that anarchism is and always has been anti-capitalist / anti-hierarchy

If Macron does win, which he most likely will outside of a nightmare scenario, then I think that's setting up an even bigger disaster down the line. When you boil it down, he's really a continuation of Hollande's neoliberal policies, and his main selling point is this cultural liberalism that I think can only get people excited for so long.

Base point, people don't like neoliberal economics. And if Macron is really going to tear down the labor unions and govern as a pro-business centrist, I have no doubt there's going to be another Le Pen that comes down the line who's able to better sell right-wing populism to people, and outright win.

there's an equal chance they'd get a bernie sanders who can sell actual liberalism. obama was basically hillary jr and I don't think he hurt Hillary's chances in 2016 even a little.

the fact that that's an option should make all of mankind giddy with excitement

I don't think there's going to be a reversal of the trend unless the left truly mobilized for another Mélenchon type figure. I'm almost certain of a National Front victory in 2022 with Macron's horrible non-politics.

Wew

I'm gonna homestead you right in the nuts

don't know why you're making this out to be radical or extraordinary

I literally hold that opinion
