i think at least part of it is that mccain has been dealing with some brain cancer, which really does suck bad. the obamacare repeal bill would have forgeted over people by removing protections for those with pre-existing conditions and cutting medicaid which covers a crapton of births.

The only solution is obviously to boil everything down into gross oversimplifications and only take sweeping actions head-on.

I'd argue that our problems are more complicated than "We need to stop spending money on things" but alas I know it will amount to nothing here.

ACA can't be reasonably "ditched" until we can find a suitable solution to the health care issue, otherwise it's just a bad idea that will hurt the economy continuously down the line. It in of itself isn't a solution and I can agree is deeply flawed in many ways, but it's at the very least something.

As it stands, companies can't afford to get their employees healthcare under surprisingly common scenarios, and individuals don't have the option to choose where their healthcare comes from, leading to a sort of monopolization scarily similar to the Comcast shenanigans.

Besides, there's a hundred things we could ditch to save money that wouldn't lead to so many people suffering if you want to save federal money. Why not focus on the war on drugs, or the war on terrorism? Both are starkly inefficient wild goose chases that have been hemorrhaging their budget for years.

there are about a million ways to deal with this that don't involve the government handing out healthcare and forcing people to buy it, for instance you could allow people to buy healthcare from other states

and yea I think its too early to stop pursuing the war on terror but way past the point to stop funding the war on drugs, what a waste of loving time

The problem is that at some point, the government was pushed to step in and provide a federal healthcare plan because the corporate monopolization led to any sort of medical care becoming way too expensive to afford for the common middle-class American. If you don't want to get the federal government involved, you need to come up with a really, really good plan to fix this issue, since by your definition, we couldn't solve the issue with court precedents and federal legislation.

And another thing is that taxes are unfortunately the easiest and usually quickest way to fund government programs. It's stuffty most of the time to introduce taxes to those struggling to live paycheck to paycheck, so there's really no easy way to go about it right now.

I'd agree that in the current state, the people working on the new repeal and replace aren't qualified to handle the healthcare issue. I don't think anything should be done until the options and outcomes have been actually weighed.

unfortunately, I'd rather have every country pay their part when it comes to defense even if it means they have to cut healthcare spending a little. many UN countries in Europe don't meet the UN's military requirements; we should not have to be their military. they should be their own military.
