Implying that centrism is even a preferable position most of the time. If you don't care enough to take sides, it means you're taking the side of the status quo, which means you aren't really a 'centrist'.

If you have some sort of meaningful view that falls somewhere between parties, then fine. But circle-jerking over your own self-described neutrality is dumb.

it doesn't practically matter whether someone is a centrist anyway. the ability to provide compelling rhetoric that explains a position effectively is an ability independent of that. if you talk to people as if you're an starfish then they're going to come away feeling as though you are an starfish regardless of how moderate your views are
