Author Topic: City RPG Servers  (Read 3588 times)

Akowalaki, me, Lego Rex, Metario, Count, Dart, Gavizt, Cavik, and various others worked on a Christmas CRPG for a  month or so, but never gained Any players. Maybe next year..

But really. Hosting crpgs will only ever be easy if all of the following apply:
-The script is 100% bug free
-New players that join, will never have questions
-There will never be brick count problems
-DOS attacks are eliminated
-Players follow the rules
-You have a good quality dedicated server to host on

I hate to break it to you Akio, but you are most definantly inclrrect. City rpg servers are, in my opinion, 5* more difficult to administrate and host, than any "regular" server.

-New players that join, will never have questions
Do you know how hard I've tried to plaster rules and help everywhere yet you still get those questions. You can't really help new player stupidity syndrome.

If a user has to type help to play the game, than it is a half ass gamemmode that is unfinished, unintuitive, and shouldnt be played.

Tru dat.

The problem is, there is no GUI or anything like that, so typing in /help in the chat is a real pain as it results to your screen becoming cluttered.

It's been over a decade. Have we really not solved the GUI downloading problem yet?

Just force the clients to download the add-on with the GUIs that goes with the gamemode?

Having to download a gui is a pretty big turnoff for a lot of people, though it would help a lot.

Col.Burtons City RPG was awesome but sadly he took it down.

My opinion on administrating CityRPG servers is definitely more valid than yours, friend, considering I was the only admin on Torru's which had a constant 25+ players for a week. Your server barely got more than 5 people.

Bad idea.

CityRPGs are incredibly hard to host.
*cough* PARADIGM DELETING YOUR BRICKS ON YOUR SERVER *cough*
Aoki,
He was not bad, Paradigm ruined it by being a troll and clearing Aoki's bricks right before the auto save came and there was no manual saves, and Aoki wasn't on since it was like 1am

I am not particularly sure who's you are talking to but Summet's had a consistent 40~ players, whilst also receiving multiple DOSes.

And Summets was also known for being a plain bad server with abusing staff.

Not to mention the he was one of the biggest douchebags I've ever met.

I'm going to explain what's wrong with Dragon's quote.

Right, CityRPGs will /never/ have problems. I'm sure you're going to have an issue eventually, and maybe it could be very hard to fix.

-New players that join, will never have questions
People will always have questions, some might be too dumb to figure it out.

-There will never be brick count problems
That's wrong unless you're going to delete people's builds when the 'limit' gets close.

-DOS attacks are eliminated
You can't really stop DoS/DDoS attacks completely.

-Players follow the rules
Not everyone will follow the rules, or notice some of them exist, even if you annoy them with message boxes (which they will hate and just keep clicking "OK"). If rules are simple you'll most likely have less problems to worry about. I've seen servers have ridiculous rules, but since you guys know how to code it's better to try to idiot proof the issue.

-You have a good quality dedicated server to host on
Not sure what this means, but okay.

You are further proving my point. I am on the side of saying that it is vastly more difficult to administrate CRPG servers than a regular server.

I actually know about this, which is why Summet and I deadmined 75% of the staff. People knew me as one of the dedicated staff members, over Summet.

Let me tell you, nobody in this world will hate Summet more than I do. I loving hate that douchebag.
Glad we are on the same page there.
