undertale is outstanding where it's strongest, but obviously it won't appeal to everyone. it's definitely a game that appeals more so to the "explorer" type of people. i think it deceptively appeals to more people when you look at it on the surface level. the bullet hell mechanic in particular probably seems appealing to some people but i think they end up disappointed because it really isn't that challenging, or even important. i've seen a lot of these people actually refer to this part of the game as "the gameplay," which is a pretty strong indication of what they were looking for. but its strongest support really comes from the people that actually enjoy the way it handles its narrative. that's where it's unique and where it really shines, and if that's lost on you, you probably aren't going to enjoy undertale. the way it's able to somehow blend mechanics and narrative in a way that's actually pretty cool is amazing, and i'm sure we're going to see a lot of games play with this idea in the future.
