okay, you need to be looking pretty much everywhere while you drive
the most important things are:
- to know what signs mean, which i assume you'd know from driver's ed
- to watch for drivers around you
- if you're doubtful at all about a left turn, DON'T DO IT, wait until it's safe
- keep any distractions far away from your reach. don't look at your girlfriend's text she sent you, don't be changing the cd in the stereo, don't do any of that
- and of course, wear your seatbelt for the whole trip
in your instance, since there's probably an instructor in the seat with you, you'll need to stay calm and not worry about things, and to not let them make you panic
are you going on the highway at all? or somewhere where there's major traffic? for those you'll need to be extra careful, since you're going faster there's a larger risk in both a deadly accident or an accident in the first place (driver error is a highest cause of accidents, though), and that in bad traffic there will be people who suddenly brake. and on the highways, don't be one of those idiots that drive over the "gore" part of an exit. if you tried to exit there but you couldn't get in the lane, wait until the next exit to get off the highway
if your instructor has you try parallel parking, it isn't quite as difficult as those movies and stuff exaggerate it to be, you just need to know how you do it
i'm not exactly sure what the laws in your state are, so if there' something i'm missing feel free to tell me
