If it's a DNS issue like others are saying, then just use a non-stuffty DNS server like Level3's or Google's or OpenDNS's

You can find out if it's a DNS issue if you can do stuff like:
open cmd⋅exe and type:

ping 8.8.8.8And it works. (8.8.8.8 is Google's DNS)
And then if you try something like

ping google.comAnd it says that the name cannot be resolved, then it is a DNS issue and you should manually set your DNS server.

anyway, do you possibly have another adapter you could try? even if it belongs to another computer, you only need it to see if it works
if not, could you try just plugging it into a different USB port? that may sound kinda stupid but it might help. specifically, try plugging it into a port in a different area, like if it's plugged into the back, try the front instead. it helps when MY stuff fricks up, sometimes

I've never been able to ping addresses. Don't know why.

Try that.
If you apply the settings and then you are then unable to connect to anything, re-check the button that says to "Obtain DNS server automatically" to reset what you've done.

Unfortunately neither of those are really an option. This is the first adapter I've ever used, and moving it is not an option.

I reset my computer back to factory settings in early March, which came on Windows 8. It automatically updated to 8.1

As of March 19th, I was able to hold a very steady connection and play whatever games I wanted.
As of April 3rd, I am losing connection every few minutes again.
I'm trying to download these drivers because they will apparently work with 8.1 - 10. I still haven't bought a new adapter yet.
