Author Topic: Do you think male circumcision should be illegal  (Read 3052 times)

Why should it be illegal??

unnecessary surgery that's usually performed on someone who cannot consent

Why should it be illegal? Why should we rely on the government to regulate personal behaviour? Are we not responsible enough to make decisions for ourselves and our children?

The Legal Side
Legally, the child doesn't have any rights until the age of 18, those right are instead inherited from the parents. In a case like this the child is usually too young to decide such a thing for themselves, and it's up to the parents to decide.

The Moral Side
It's not really "fair" to snip your kid at birth right away, especially when they are so young and fragile, and don't know whats going on. Most parents get their kids snipped for "medical reasons" which include transmitting a loveual disease easier since it's more difficult to keep the area clean

The Logical Conclusion
Obviously circumcision shouldn't be illegal, because it's already a choice from the beginning. It's not like the doctors force you to circumcise your kids, otherwise this thread might actually make sense.

it should be legal since it's common in religion and infringing on religious rights is wrong

I would argue that's a totally backwards way to think about it, I mean is there is no reason to do it immediately at birth except for that.

And then you are doing this for religious reasons on a baby who is NOT religious, that's fact, babies are not religious in the slightest, it is taught into them and they grow up around it. Imagine if it was done in later years for religious reasons, would you be willing to go to the doctors and be circumcised just because thats what you religion wants you to do?

babies are essentially the property of their parents
and i can't answer that second part because i'm personally not religious but i'm sure there are people who would do that, yeah

Yes but you can't go around putting babies into the oven and slapping them, its considered abuse, and I think thats what the question boils down to, and its something that I believe it is.

I'm also not religious but I dont think I could be convinced to if I was, it would probably make me leave the religion. As I said, to me it just seems completely backwards

there's really no point in circumcision

I'm not a fan of circumcising babies before they could ever have a choice in the matter, but I don't think it should be illegal.

There needs to be an option for Yes, unless a health issue is more serious for it to be needed

obviously there's a difference between cutting off a roll of baby skin and putting a baby in an oven
but the important one is that one is a long-standing religious rite and the other is not

I'm pretty sure I could dig up some other long standing religious rite, like if you suspect someone of witchcraft then kill them whatever, you know what I mean. The point is you need to draw a line between religion and well being. I know the babies into oven was overexageration but there is absolutely NO REASON to do it, other than for the religious and health (which I said should be allowed, obviously).

Theres massive amounts of female circumcision in the middle east and asia, im not 100% sure if its cultural or religious (which you could debate religion is culture), but its actually illegal in most places and everyone is pushing to have it banned, you can search it up if you like.

So why stop there, the girls having it done obviously wouldn't have it done if they had no previous knowledge of it. Pushing this because its religious stuff is completely backwards and there is no reason to have it today

I think what this boils down to is that some religious rites aren't compatible with western culture. In the Middle East women are stoned to death for adultery.

On the other hand, circumcision, while unnecessary, is almost always harmless.
