Author Topic: How crazy am I for wanting to travel the world?  (Read 1299 times)

Another thing is where in the world you'd want to go to.
I personally, would feel much safer with a significant safety net if I was travelling across Europe or the US/Canada, or Australia/New Zealand. Just because the nations within have safety nets of their own.

Asia, Southeast Asia, South America, Africa... The countries you could be travelling through, while they have lovely areas and probably provide for some phenomenal experiences, are just not such an easy place should things go wrong is all.
At that point, I wouldn't want to be stuck in the country with no money.

It's those fears that put me off from truly exploring the world.

According to the OP. Your reletively normal like us.

See but fear is stopping you from going places outside your comfort zone. Thats why I think people would think Im crazy to leave security and put myself at risk. I can't say that I wouldn't be scared, but I'm not right now.

I would want to be flexible and start somewhere in Europe maybe and go from there. Maybe making a my way through Asia and down to Australian or something. These are just some crazy thoughts Ive had I havent really looked into actually doing it besides reading Matt's blog.

It's not crazy at all dude. Lots of people feel the same way you do.

My ex was obsessed with this idea, but he wanted to do it by hitchhiking. He was depressed.

Don't think about doing it, unless you have the funds and the ability to go back when you want to.

Who says I'd wanna go back

You will, once your priorities shift with age.

This is you, hate to say it
That doesn't apply at all. Ff was talking about the people that flaunt it around like they're somehow superior to other people for travelling.

I don't think it's necessarily "crazy", but it's definitely an idea loads of people dream and talk about but then never actually make a goal out of it - for whatever reason - especially when you're talking about living in the places you travel as opposed to visiting.

Personally, I have had such a goal for around two years now; I've got a couple thousand saved so far for travelling, and have also done lots of research. I know I'd be good off in many cases, because as an IT nerd/designer I can pretty much find good-paying work wherever there are computers(not that I'd want this type of work, but it's an option), and my real-world mma/pk training could help me stay out of trouble.

I don't plan to go on a journey until I'm more around your age, but the thing I fear is that by the time I'm that old I'll have many factors working against me: a wife, high-paying promotion/job, debilitating injury, financial crCIA-- basically it comes down to either I get too comfortable or get put in a situation where I wouldn't be able to experience it the way I want to. Can't reccommend the "never returning" idea and/or selling everything you've got here in the states, though. My own plan has me returning permanently at some point - maybe taking breaks from travelling to return home for a while every now and then, too - I could never leave all of my friends, and I want to start a family eventually. My opinion is: you want to enhance your life, not ruin it, so don't do anything you're not totally dedicated to and prepared for

I'm not even sure what this means. What do you mean?

Yeah its hard. Like you said, a lot of people talk about traveling but get to comfortable or something comes up and they never end up going.

I'm pretty introverted and like to spend time to myself and not stress too much over relationships.

Financially would be interesting. It seems that people say What if you run out of money? but I don't know how worried I'd be if I had little money. The documentary, Living on One Dollar, was incredible interesting and showed how in some areas in the world you can live on less than a dollar a day. But hey, maybe a travel blog could bring in some income.

I know I'd have to be fully dedicated and it would definitely be something I would think about for awhile.

absolute mad man youd fall off once you reach the horizon

I like the idea, but you need a lot of money for that lol

i mean you can get a one way ticket and just drift around the world, probably cost like 10,000 dollars to travel across the world
