Author Topic: Race for Berlin  (Read 792 times)

I thought of an interesting take on a TDM recently...

There are three teams: the Allies, Axis, and Soviets. The map is linear, with the Allies starting in the west, the Soviets in the east, and Axis in the middle. The goal of the Allies and Soviets is to make it to the capture point in the middle - Berlin - before the other team. If they do, that team wins. However, the Axis is trying to prevent either team from doing so. The Axis is developing a super weapon that will require some time to activate; when time runs out in the round, the Axis wins. To make it more balanced, the Axis will most likely need stronger weapons, a better defensive position, or else a short round timer.

I think this would create interesting mechanics and team dynamic. The Axis will have to split their focus between two fronts, while the Allies and Soviets are adversaries but have an incentive for the other to do well.

i love these kinds of gamemode ideas and i would love to execute this one. the problem is, blockland players never use any kind of tactics in DMs, it's just shooty shooty pointy shooty, so i feel like this wouldn't reach its full potential.

nonetheless, i could probably get a small team (including you) and put this kind of thing together. the only problem i can think of is that if we're going to use Domination gamemode, we can't prevent the axis powers from capturing it themselves and just winning like that. that'd just happen every time. we'd have to come up with something to keep the axis off of the platform. we could maybe even make the axis powers bots or something.

Maybe we could set up the gamemode so that the CP doesn't automatically give victory. Berlin starts as an Axis point and has onCPCapture events that cause a victory if the Allies or Soviets capture it?

that makes sense. like let's say allies are team1 and we do oncpcapture(team1)>minigame>win?

Yeah.

Yep, you can do everything here using the existing TDM game mode in Slayer. Sounds good.

For an Axis weapon I recommend the Maus

And if you want a superweapon there's always the Ratte

To avoid having to make the Axis too powerful, you could put the armies at a 90 degree angle instead of a straight line, so the Allies and Soviets will have more chances to interfere with each other rather than both beelining to Berlin. Maybe put a field or some rural area in the middle of the triangle?

I'd love to help with this if I had more time! I can provide saves of a train, half track, tank, some buildings, etc., for you.

The one problem I see with this is that you're going to need a lot of players on the server in order for the game to actually be playable. Perhaps bots could be used to provide a larger "army?
Nonetheless, it doesn't hurt to give this a go!

Would anyone mind if I gave this a shot?
And would you mind if I used it on my SuperFPS rotation?

Actually when i bought blockland and started playing the good old slopes tdm "yes the terrain one" me and my cousin had a bunch of tactics that we would use. I remember that one of them was that we would go to one of the points wich was close to a big hill and snipe enemies of that and take helicopter from there.

OT:
I would love this

*sigh*
I'd love to get around to this, but I'm a bit busy with this at the moment along with a ton of homework.
Basically, don't expect it until summer. When it does roll around though, I'll reach out to Hodot and any other friends who may want to work on it and I'll see about getting it done.
