I was having a rebellion instead of blatantly stating, "Korean becomes a republic" out of nowhere. Since the monarchy of Korea were isolationists and didn't want to interact with other nations, it would've made a bit more since to have a rebellion because an emperor isn't going to stand down and not be ruler anymore, he is going to respond with brute force to show the public he isn't going to go down without a fight, this would outrage civilians to the point they would fight for more privileges and rights.
