It's not about smarts, it's about tolerance and pattern recognition. Get a good texture pack and some time/patience and go in with no expectations and you will slowly chip away at the uninviting shell this beautiful and amazing game is hiding inside

period key and comma key. There might be a shift key involved.

I love DF, but I'm still salty about how my last good fortress died to tantrum spiral/thermonuclear catplosion. :^(

I love playing adventure mode tbh

ayyyyy I love me some df

Should we start a succession game?

i was thinking of making a DF thread
damn you

get the lazy newb pack it comes with texture packs and dfhack already installed
but way better than a tileset or a graphics pack (i still recommend LNP though because its bundled with all sorts of cool things): learn what the ascii characters mean and realize that imagination has an infinite resolution

heres a quick run down of some common creatures
@: adventure mode player character
U: human
☺: dwarf

< and > by default.

i kill or restrain all cats until i can make a room with a raised drawbridge for a wall

if a catsplosion happens, the hammer falls

i'm not a huge fan of fortress mode, my fortress usually falls apart pretty fast. i really like adventure mode though. love using the combat system.
