Author Topic: Blockland Save Archive  (Read 5596 times)

Hey its me again. After being on blockland for so many years now and being active on off a lot, I've seen many amazing builds created by several people. I also know people who created builds like these and eventually lost them because they had to buy a new computer or they got a virus or something like that.

So with that intro out of the way I was thinking of creating a blockland saves archive, where I would collect all the amazing builds that have been made over the years, like Sylvanors cities, or the unfinshed projects of Furdles and I would make an archive of them. And then if anyone of these creators happened to lose their original copy of these builds for whatever reason there would be a backup in the proposed save archive.

Let me know what you think, personally I think it would be a wonderful idea to preserve some of those amazing builds that have surfaced all throughout blockland's history.

Blockland Glass is going to eventually have a place to upload builds.

Aw man looks like he beat me too it.

Well until that moment comes, it still doesn't hurt to have one now c:
I'd say go for it!

And I bet it will happen before they ever bother to let you upload soundpacks.

I would definitely support this OP. Please do add my builds on my Star Trek gallery thread to this save archive :)

That's because of danger of copyright infringement.

Ok after reading these responses I think I will start researching into how to make an effective working archive, and if any of you want your builds in the archive just PM me and we will work something out. I will probably have a format for the archive somewhat like this:

Save Name:
Author(s):
Short Description:
Picture of the build:

I was thinking of making my archive look somewhat like the RTB Addon Archives that were made by Swollow and Xalos (I think) but just a little but edited to follow the above format.

Let me know what you guys think about that, also if you guys have any tips on where I can research how to make and archive or have any tips on making one be sure to let me know.

You've been able to upload sound packs for about 2-3 weeks now.

Zapk did like exactly this and nobody really used it. I wouldn't waste your time.

yea, elm did too

People didn't use it because it wasn't integrated in the game. A new external site is just going to die like the last ones.

lol thats bullstuff dude

I assume it would be theoretically possible to make an integrated archive, but the only concern is that say if someone like Sylvanor uploaded his soviet city and it was unfinshed and he got a new computer, im not sure exactly how this would work yet, but then theoretically another player could download the soviet city and claim it as their own. This would then make an intergrated archive flawed unless there would be someway to make certain files private or locked.

would it be possible to write backend that checks for build similarity, e.g. a number of bricks share the same offset? using such a method one could just procedurally check if someone's reuploading a build already on the server by checkiing for 90-95% similarity or something.

as for ingame integration, a mod center like RTB would be neat. Comes with pictures and everything.

overall the safest bet is to just have a review staff which goes through submitted builds and limit uploads from x BLID to one a day. they would be able to take appropriate and up-to-date pictures and also confirm what addons/colorset are used in the build and fix accordingly.

You want to check every line of a save for every line of every save file in a potential huge datablock of save files? Sounds counter productive.
