Author Topic: Why is it normal to tip your barber?  (Read 3480 times)

I don't get it. If I go to.. Great Clips for example. I pay $15 to get a hair cut. After whoever it is, gives me a hair cut, why am I supposed to tip the person? I already paid $15 to get a hair cut, why am I paying another amount of money for a hair cut.

Because tipping means appreciation?

You don't tip at Great Clips. You tip at local barbershops.

So the barber gets actual money for cutting it. Your first $15 goes to the company.

I've never heard of tipping at great clips, or any other chains like that

One thing I love about Australia is that tipping is all automatic and factored into the price so I don't even have to give a stuff.

because they're providing a service on low pay

i dont tip anywhere cept a mid tier ($40 per person) restaurant or better.

because they're providing a service on low pay

that is not a reason to give someone extra money. a tip is supposed to be a bribe for more service, cept its been bastardized over the years and you give it afterward.
but i still expect extra service for it. just because some low skill starfish is content with low pay, dosnt mean he deserves more money from me.

i only tip if my waiter or whoever was really cool and helpful

Tipping is completely pointless and actually inherently bad for waiters, but you should do it because nobody has managed to change the system yet. If you refuse to tip, you'll just be screwing with the lives of the waitstaff, and tipping won't go away any quicker.

another tipping rant

Tipping does not exist in the UK for some reason

my dad always tips 20% for every kind of service he gets like that (eg. waiter, pizza guy, barber, etc)
