FORZA 6 APEX

PC finally got a forza game, but it's in beta right now and you have to have Windows 10. It is free, however, and you can get it from the Windows Store. The graphics are drop-dead gorgeous, but they need a decent computer.

Didn't see any topics for this, so discuss.

Downloading now, I'm hella excited for this.

Be sure to update your drivers, AMD and Nvidia released game-ready drivers for this

Oh god here we go, I'm hoping these drivers don't forget my system like people have been saying the recent chain have.

I really want to play this but at the same time I really don't want to migrate to Windows 10.

Honestly forget them for requiring windows 10. That's some serious bullstuff.

how about the next full forza game being both windows AND xbox
instead of just making some spinoff game for pc with a quarter of the content -___________-

They said that the next games will be full-fledged.

That's only because it needs Directx 12. Windows 10 isnt that bad TBH, but you do need a decent amount of RAM.

I'm loving loving it so far.

Games have been allowing players to choose among directX versions for a long time, is there something radically different about DX12 that would change that?

In mine and others' experience, DX12 significantly improves eye candy without needing significantly better hardware. This is also meant to be a playable DX12 tech demo, AFAIK. Plus, the Xbone game already runs on DX12, so there would have to be significant changes to the engine to support DX11, which would just cause problems, since we all know how bad MS usually is at PC ports.

I really don't want to migrate to Windows 10.
screw pc gaming if other developers start doing this garbage

Under the hood, DirectX12 is a completely different implementation. DirectX11 and DirectX10 were just extensions to the DirectX9 system, and so maintaining compatibility was simply just checking a couple booleans here and calling a few different functions there. DX12 completely removes the virtual driver model from previous iterations and requires you to micro-manage way more variables and subsystems, but the benefits are huge.

Also, Forza 6 is also for Xbox One which received DirectX12 via an update. I'm assuming Turn10 wants to keep both branches of the game as close as possible, and so not having to support old renderers would be a major help so they can focus on doing more cool stuff with the new tech instead. Remember, they would have had to spend time adapting to the new system and learning what to change.

Here's the official Microsoft overview of just some of the stuff required to change a DirectX11 game into a DirectX12 game.

Because apparently it's the "trendy" thing to do or some stuff.
