Author Topic: DataProxy's Blogland  (Read 944 times)

I've decided to put down a loose journal board of roaming thoughts of whatever crosses my mind. Not to much of that mushy-feely kind of pap; Just some occasional 2 cents to whatever comes my way, ranging from random out-of-game experiences to in-game thoughts. Feel free to comment or give any related experiences. But heed the warning:

This is not a plea for sympathy, neither flaming of others, nor endless harping of some random bullstuff for 3 consecutive posts. This is also not a joke topic or something to debate as to why this thread even exists. Already have had enough of that crap on here.
Anyone who ignores this part will be ignored.

Log 1 - Pecon7's Boss Battles

After the V21 update that introduced shadows and shaders and thus removing maps altogether, I had lost some interest for Blockland for some time. I eventually came back, looking for some new ways to spend my time. I mostly kept to myself before then, hosting and playing by myself. I looked through the server and soon landed in Boss Battles for the first time. Concept was simple; Survive 10 minutes, either killing the boss, or preventing the latter from capturing the point in the middle of the map. I was pretty poor at first but got better over time. I actually came to love the OMA game that we all know so much that I wanted to host a tribute game similar in concept. The game itself was different in most ways that Pecon's originally did, sporting more than 9 bosses (some a bit stronger than others. Made a couple people ragequit from constant failures), a plethora of slightly-different-than-TF2 classes, Power-ups that gave both teams an edge, and an occasional vehicle or 2.

I still didn't know about Blockland, and the idea was very lopsided. But I was determined to get it right. Gradually improving the server, working with different people, both past and present, and the game was at least considered 'decently playable' and even got at least 20 people in-game on a very good day.
But eventually, problems began piling up. Graphics card broke and didn't have change for a new one, my constant on-and-off schedule of mostly school work and parents constantly pushing me to be the "best" and I soon had to shut down my Boss Fights project. I still even have the builds that were used in the game.

Now my 2 cents? Pecon's Boss Battles are AMAZING! I could never hope to top a game so great, and so long-running. The least I could ever do was give a sense of flatter through duplication. I never intended to compete, nor steal traffic from the original. I just wanted to work with something that I loved to host, as back then, I usually played alone. If you have never played such a game, I highly recommend playing.

All in all, I suppose this was one of the major events that originally brought me to the Blockland Forums in the first place. And by then, my experience for the whole game had only began.

Log 1 - Revelations
In this game of life, you win some and you lose some. While everyone opted to go their own way, I was busy at home, working on a new masterpiece. Combine peaches, plums, jicama, lime juice, onions, cilantro, garlic, oil, a pinch of salt and some pepper halves in a bowl, then let it sit for at least 30 minutes to blend. Prepare your grill and preheat to medium heat. After your grill is heated, chop up your summer salsa according to how chunky you want it to be. Do not add water. Grill your ham steak by the package directions and serve with the summer salsa and some tortilla chips.
