i guess i have trouble buying the idea that people are criminally insane because a book says some sketchy stuff hard to believe, because i find it hard to believe in general that people legitimately alter their existing beliefs just because they read some words on a page. to me, it seems an awful lot more like people just use those words to justify the stupid stuff they already believe. and if they don't believe something, they won't suddenly change their mind unless they're excessively compelled for some reason (e.g. everything around you is stuff and sucks and you want a way out or a way to feel safe and meaningful)
maybe that's just because i'm a godless liberal or something, but i feel like people are more stubborn than that

also, mind substantiating this bullstuff claim you're pushing that i'm a tribal?
i think they were really just saying that, if you had a predetermined negative opinion of something, you're already biased against it and so your opinion on the matter should be taken with that in mind. regardless of whether or not that's true, it's a pretty valid thing to consider
