Author Topic: is the ammo system a good idea?  (Read 2140 times)

Ammo systems are fantastic, I don't know what he's talking about. If what he says is true, then Bungie, Valve, Infinity Ward, Westwood, Pandemic, GSC, Bioware, id Software, Red Storm Entertainment, Rareware, EALA, Core Design, Lucasarts, Bethesda, Digital Illusions CE, etc. must be running some underhand deals on the side to supplement their lousy income and manage their bloated advertising campaigns.

And that brings up the question of "Where did the my-graphics-card-is-bigger-than-yours-it-has-a-fan-with-a-12-inch-diameter-and-I-can-toast-bread-on-it boom come from?" because it sure didn't come from the cutting edge graphics and demanding physics calculations of strategy and puzzle games.

Ammo systems aren't bad, the one that was released Blockland just had some major flaws that could be corrected.

You don't have to use it, and you don't have to play on servers that are running it. You don't really have any reason to oppose the development of an ammo system, since it would probably be an add-on anyway. I don't think the point of this topic was to tell Badspot to put ammo in the game because it would be cool, I think the point was to throw the idea out there for others to develop on.

And I can't possibly understand why people are trying to work out how to make an ammo system work... We've had ammo in games since at least the 90's, and people have been loading bullets in guns and killing people hundreds of years before that. We had arrows, bolts, and slings with stones before guns too. I think it's safe to say that, with the exception of the boomerang, people have been using ranged weapons with limited ammunition to kill things ever since they decided there were things in the world worth killing. It's pretty simple, you pick up bullets from crates and you shoot them. Clip sizes and extras like that just add flair to the game.

I want an ammo system with an ammo count on the gui, and as I've told space a billion loving times, to make it so you pick up the same weapon to gain more ammo. He refuses to do tis because "People could ctrl+w in game play to gain more ammo". I told him how to avoid that but he then replied "well I'd prefer to have a separate ammo item that gives you random ammo". So obviously Space Guy is too much of a cigarette about his ammo system to change it.

Yay for logical fallacies!

Did it ever occur to you that perhaps Space Guy has a point about the ammo system?

I mean, even if he did put in anti-cheat measures, a player could just stand on the weapon spawn and pump out ammo like its not tomorrow. By adding ammo items you can separate them and add more tactical decisions to the game.

A GUI item for ammo is sorely needed, even if others who don't have it have to rely on centerprint messages.

Name one Fps that has separate ammo pick ups on multiplayer.
