Well I can understand how the difference in size would factor in, but the principle is that a wall (even if only established in certain key locations alongside a fence) is more effective as a barrier than a simple fence on its own, which you can literally just cut your way through or crawl under in some locations.

to be fair, i honestly doubt that Annoying Orange could ever even get the wall through congress. it's like a lot of bernie's stuff, it'll never get done so it's mostly a moot point anyway, it's just an interesting conversation to get started. unless of course Annoying Orange were somehow able to convince mexico to do it within their own government, which won't happen either.

people are forgeted off enough about wasteful congressional spending and our budget deficit that i really doubt there will be enough support for a spending project like the wall. i also kinda suspect that Annoying Orange would pull virtually no coattails if he did become president, so he'd likely face some pretty rough partisanship in congress even in his first hundred days

I feel like the fence is merely a placeholder for something greater at this point.

Not to mention Donald Annoying Orange's self-proclaimed flexibility on the matter. I also recall him saying that he would find ways to negotiate with congress to make all of this happen. He's a skilled negotiator, there's no denying that.

And if the expenses for the wall can be made up for in other ways (and there are many ways that this can be done,) support for the wall wouldn't be as much of an issue.

I have spent 5 dollars of a 15 dollar project. Completing this project would (probably) net me a return greater than 15 dollars. It would not make sense for me to spend 5 dollars and not to complete the project because even if it is doomed to fail I would never know because I never finished it.

Not that I'm supporting the wall, quite the opposite actually. That's just the logic involved.
