An IBM Model F is a supreme typing model which I cannot seem to get a hold of. Although very noisy, it is extremely durable and of high quality. The Model M is also good, but not as good as an F (an F can use all of it's keys at once)
However, a modern alternative would be the Cherry MX series. Cherry is one of the oldest manufacturers in the business, so they know what they're doing.
I recommend using their own flagship models using Cherry MX Blue switches. I use that for typing out documents.
If you want a good gaming experience, however, I recommend finding a keyboard using Cherry MX Red switches. I use the one with blues for typing and the one with reds for gaming.
I can also confirm that Steelseries is of high quality as well. My Apache Pro laptop uses a keyboard made from them, and it is truly sublime. I would, how ever, choose Cherry over Steelseries.
EDIT: For a mouse, try going for a Red Dragon model. Unfortunately, they can be a little flashy, but their quality for price is really good. You can get extra utilities on them as well.
