Windows has always had the system where the computer auto-updates 15 minutes after you close the update box, unless you tell the prompt that pops up afterwards to wait longer or not update. This isn't new.

changing your entire loving operating system is new

I can't understand why a company would want to free software on you (for no profit) that you don't want unless they had something to gain from it, something they're obviously not telling us
information gathering

maybe other things too

yeah but that's terrible and annoying as well

Just turn off cortana if you don't want your activity tracked. It is kind of dumb that they would have it enabled by default but nothing is stopping users from turning it off. Not upgrading because of a feature that can be disabled is silly.

if you think thats all that you need to do to stop activity tracking and information gathering then i really dont know what to tell you

Cortana stores every single thing you do, from web searches to the programs you download, in an online cloud that Microsoft has access to. You can even clear the activity that has already been recorded after you turn cortana off.
If you're super paranoid you can even turn off location, privacy, and advertising settings. With some tweaking you can have as much privacy as you want.

why is this such a big deal? It's a more modern system and they want their hardware to upgrade to it.
anyways I think the "i hate Windows 10" mentality is just melodrama. I upgraded and haven't had any difference in using the computer or issues with hardware. what are some problems with win10 that makes people so against upgrading

dunno about that but i'm pretty sure ipquarx or someone else made a very large post about what windows 10 does and tracking and whatnot

privacy concerns, incompatibility

Windows 10 makes it easier for microsoft to monitor your actives. This is why they want to force upgrades.

Id like to see that or a source saying that Windows 10 still collects information after cortana and the other privacy settings are turned off. Having privacy concerns is silly unless you've never used a computer in your life and don't know that there's a settings button. It might be easier for them to track people who are unaware, but the users are still in complete control.

Regardless of whether you think Windows 10 is good or not theres absolutely no excuse for tricking people into installing it.
