Author Topic: US Pres. Election: BL Forums Edition (THE SIMULATION BEGINS, 5/29 AT 6:00 EST)  (Read 11204 times)

REGISTRATION FORMS ARE DUE ON WEDNESDAY, MAY 25TH AT 11:59 EST.

THE PLOT

The year is 2016, and it's time for another 'Merican presidential election. Unfortunately, most of the choices suck ass. However, a new hope (?) arises within the Blockland community, and now, possibly hundreds of members can jump right into the race and become the President of the United States of America, including YOU. Promises will be made, babies will be kissed, wall building may occur and love scandals will arise from here and there. But now, it's YOUR chance to become the most powerful man in the world, for reasons such as (1) to act as a positive force for good, (2) to spread "hilarious and original" memes across the globe, or (3) to repair a damaged forum reputation. Who will win? Or whatever.

THE GAME

So you may be wondering exactly what the hell this is. Well, this idea came to be after I recently bought a pretty cool simulation game titled "President Infinity." Basically, you run for President of the United States. It's like The Political Machine or Race to the White House, but much more complex, accurate and strategic. You can play in both the primary elections for the respective parties and as whatever candidate you want for the regular election.

The game also allows you to perform simulations, which means you can "observe" an election without having to interfere with the actual process and just let the computer players do their stuff. I got an idea for a collaborative project where a bunch of people sign up to be playable candidates by just filling in a form with name/party affilation/positions and plugging it into the simulation. I figured I'd try it out with the forums since we've got a real election coming and it'd be pretty fun to see how ridiculous we can make an election with actual Blockland players.

So basically, this is a fake election for the President of the United States...if all the candidates were Blockland players. And anyone on here can play.

HOW TO PLAY

If you want to run for "President", you first need to fill out this Google Form. You'll have to answer a series of questions that'll be integral to the creation of your candidate.
http://goo.gl/forms/ZpYxARL1HOdntalg1
After you have completed this form, your information will be plugged into the simulation and your candidate will be created.

FAQ

How is the simulation run?
President Infinity is basically based on multiple different variables that happen around the election's time period. Variables such as protests, scandals, notable news stories and ads can have large effects on the simulation. It's basically built to be as realistic as possible. After each candidate is created based on players' information, the candidate is pit against other candidates within their own party's primary, and they'll have to fight for the nomination for their respective parties.

Do I have to choose a certain party?
No, you can create your own name for a party, and it'll still get plugged in. You may also run as an independent, but this can decrease your candidates' "electability."

Will the results within the simulation be updated within this thread?
Yes. Also, it won't be terribly spread out over a long course, and it'll be continuosly updated with information about polls/news/notable info about what's going on in the simulation.

Can I recommend a member as a potential candidate?
You can't force a member to register as a candidate. If several members push for one person, however, they made be added as a potential vice-presidential candidate (this doesn't require the load of information as an actual candidate.)

If you have anymore questions, reply to this topic and they can be added to the FAQ.

I will save America. Pinto Bean.

Nonnald Annoying Orange here

I should've set my candidate name to Cthulhu so I could use my favorite political ad

Just a reminder that the cutoff time for forms is Wednesday at 11:59 EST.

Right now I'm just trying to figure out the poll numbers in the states. The game's really built for the two-party system but half of the players are either third-party or independent. I've already got ideas for some parties, like the Memester Party is centrist with a pro-union slant, meaning it'll do well in the blue-collar Midwest region, and both the Succ and Cool Kids parties are practically neo-national socialist white supremacists that'll do well in the Deep South.
