What if players were able to craft their own pickaxes?

Instead of just having different pickaxe levels, why not have each pickaxe be made out of a different type of ore

Have different leveled picks be required to dig different leveled bricks, then use money to upgrade them to mine faster / some other stat boost. Just a thought.

Caveins and structure blocks that prevent them. Also trainmod + rails for tunnels. Have random geofences with a high chance of a particular shiny mineral.

The cavein basically being stone/dirt/whatever forming inside of your tunnel because you weren't taught to mine carefully.

I like the idea but how would the money be used?

Maybe have it so players are able to trade each other? Or have money used for upgrades that players could buy that would make it so they mine faster, have a better chance of finding ores, etc.

Or you could have it so players buy pickaxes from merchants, and just as a side note players could make them themselves for free, they just have to spare their time to make it.

money could simply be required to purchase jet fuel, climbing tools/ropes (and their respective bricks), air vent bricks, and things you need to dig deeper/not get stuck.

the ore picks themselves would simply improve your digging speed. money would be traded for these tools since even with them, you'll still need cash to dig deep.

edit: i think its time for you to summarize the current gamemode setup in your eyes, vis, so we can offer suggestions on the complexity and such.
