idk to me the reasonable standard seems to just be "don't be completely insensitive" unless you're looking at more sketchy, polarized opinions. just the same, the extreme right is pushing a lot of really weird regressive ideas against certain groups. the problem is that
politics in general is becoming more polarized; extreme views in both areas might be getting more representation, but they aren't going anywhere fast because they're increasingly unable to compromise with increasingly distant opposition
also there's a lot of stuff media around these days because the internet doesn't impose much of a quality barrier to newcomers. as a direct result, there's a fresh, new, growing market around for bullstuff, and it can come in whatever flavor you like. it's also incredibly easy to get only the news you
want to hear, which is only pushing the problem further. don't get me wrong, this is overall a good thing because the ready availability of information has benefits that far outweigh the costs, but it's definitely a problem these days that affects all people and ideologies alike
