tbh i think everyone really wants the same thing: they want this bullstuff to stop and they want someone to do something about it, because as it stands people don't feel safe and they don't feel protected. as it turns out, you can feel a lot safer if you can identify your fears. that's survivalist instincts and heuristics working beautifully together. nobody is trying to minimize the real threat, in reality people have been more so debating the balance between morality and self-preservation.
would we be safer if we had no muslims in the country? that's quite possibly the case, these are terrorist organizations and networks that are using islam as a vehicle for their extremist rhetoric. it makes sense. would it be right to shun muslims en-masse because of these groups? i think that, on the most basic of levels, people would agree that's not fair and not just, but people find justifiable because it could be for our well-being. at the core of all this, i think it really just comes down to what people value more, but in the end it's all extraneous to the real problem.
even if we remove the threat from our turf, that's not going to stop what's going on in the world, and the more you antagonize them, the more invested they become. people become martyrs, it becomes even more clear to even more people that we are a threat to their well-being. because we actually want the problem solved, it's more useful to understand how we got here than it is to find a scapegoat. this thing is going to blow up one way or another eventually, and i'm sure i'm not the only one who's more than ready for this nonsense to be over with. i just hope that we can find real solutions at the end of this instead of just constructing and propping up flimsy societies by our pinkies again
