Author Topic: Gots me a shiny new 2004 Gibson SG!  (Read 3270 times)

I play a lot of classic rock, and some blues. But I've also been learning things like SRV and Cliffs of Dover. I fell in love with the SG listening to Angus Young's guitar tone, but the Strat is more versatile. I also play in my school's jazz band, but I have an Ibanez S-type that I use for rhythm. Lead, however, I can't do bends with due to the Floyd Rose system. In my free time I play stuff like Kansas, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, Pantera, Metallica, etc.
I'd go for the Strato then. The humbucker will provide the thicker sound for your Pantera, jazz, and Metallica while the Singles will provide the brighter classic rock and such

You shouldn't be having any problem with bending on a floating trem if it's set up properly. Floyd's were literally built for leads.

Well, both electrics have em and I want something that isn't a Floyd Rose. However, the one on the Ibanez is sort of an Ibanez knockoff. I had the Ibanez professionally set up when I had the string gauge changed to 10's

This is helpful insight. Thanks man.

accessing the higher frets is going to be a lot easier on the SG, but getting your hand around the Strat's neck heel probably won't take too long to get used to

(the burst finish looks forgetin' ace too)

I went for the SG, but the dude gave me a good payment deal on the strat in case I spring for that as well. But I just clicked with the SG. I'm at home rn and it sounds PHENOMENAL. Thank you to everyone for your input.

Buy your first at a pawn store or something, the second one you can pour all that cold hard cash on.

Look at me I bought an AXL guitar from a pawn store and it cost me 60 bucks.
(AXL is some random company I didn't even buy a brand name)

Thanks ya.

I've seen them. They're LP-style guitars but tacky and over the top kinda like Charvel's Desolation series. They ain't too expensive tho. Not sure how they sound. My red Ibanez S-type I bought out of the back of a van for $50. It's worth about $250 in the condition it's in

I enjoy it and I can't really talk about the sound much seeing as its my first electric and I'm basically just using it to practice.

I enjoy the look at the feel of it and maybe ill take a picture of it later to show it off.

Since we have a guitar thread going, check out my rig.

Did all the work myself. Model is the Peavy "Rockmaster" but I've dubbed it the Peavy Titan because of the DiMarzio Titan bridge pup I installed.
