Got my drivers license in 1 shot, I messed up on 2 things which was:

- Use turning signal when parking
- Use turning signal when doing 3 point turn

The things I got marked down for were all stupid. One was not looking over my shoulder while driving in reverse (literally cannot see anything when doing that in an 18ft long van with a car seat blocking the view on top of that, which I tried to explain). Second, I drove too fast on one of the roads I was on. Third, I "rolled" through a stop sign, when in technicality I didn't. I stopped at the line, complete stop, but the line was too far back to see around the trees to actually see if there were any cars coming, so I crept forward past the line, saw no cars, and then completed the turn.

Wait, your axams are on open road? Our driver schools are on open road, not the exams, lol.

Also my exam was parallel park, traffic light, going up/down a hill, doing a circular road backwards without touching the curb, zigzag through cones (this was hard because it was prepared for small cars, not a pickup truck, and 90° parking.

The instructors were on the road and registered everything vis plates. No one got in the truck with me.

Yep, my exam was on the open road.

XR, I don't look backwards when in reverse. I use my mirrors. It would be useless looking backwards on a truck with no rear window, lol.

Exactly. In my van I just use mirrors and the backup camera.

Driving standards say that you should always look backwards. I would agree, though, I feel that this notion is quite useless in many situations.

You know whats really weird about American Laws? For the driving test even though you know the rear window is blocked/missing, you are still required to make that motion of looking back with your hand resting on the passenger seat. (Someone told me they had a same situation and they were still required)

The reason for this is because they want you to have it as second nature so that if you go in any other "normal" car you would do that by impulse instead of using mirrors.
