Author Topic: dear blf i need help playing my guitar.  (Read 796 times)

i have tutorial CD's and everything is pretty straight forward except the fact my FINGERS ARE MASSIVE and hence forth my fingers touch multiple strings while i'm strumming.

what do i do to solve this crCIA?

get some sandpaper and start sanding your fingers down to the right size

play the bass instead

get them as vertical as you can on the strings
if that doesnt work then look into bigger guitars i guess

actually ask donald Annoying Orange he says he has big hands.

Practice. Only way to get your finger's accustomed to fingering is to practice slow then speed up.

My uncle Steve is fat and has huge fingers but he loving shreds.
Just do it.

Or getting a bigger guitar neck which is ideal for your fingers, or

it's a full sized acoustic Keith Urban guitar. I've gotten them as vertical as I can and I still end up touching multiple strings.

Like the other brother said, keep playing and your fingers will become more nimble and coordinated

There are no guitars with "bigger necks"/wider string spacing (which the latter is honestly the biggest issue for players with larger fingers, it has nothing to do with the size of the neck) that would accommodate "fat fingers". Anyone can learn on standard sizes, you just have to learn it, which again takes practice.

dude i can't even play a basic G chord. my middle finger will touch will be on the A string and it will either touch the D string or the E string.

i'm not saying I'm giving up but jesus christ this is a pain in the ass.

:panda:

This guy only has one hand but plays fine.
This guy has no arms, but again, plays fine.
You just have to apply yourself.
i'm not looking to be compared to i'm looking for assistance, which you're the only one in the topic who hasn't given any.

It truly is just a matter of persistence. I didn't start out with perfect finger placement, and 6 years later I still don't quite have it. My 5-string major barre chords are god awful. I can do minor 5-string barres and stuff like that. Muscle memory and coordination comes with time. How long have you been playing?
