All match rules and regulations must be read and followed by every player. Deliberate countering of the rules will result in breaking the flow of the match and will result in (depending on the rule broken and situation) a ban or disqualification. If you are having trouble understanding the rules and regulations, please feel free to contact Basil or any of the admins available. We are happy to answer your questions to avoid confusion.
Game Rules 1. Each team must start the match with an obligatory 2 players and 1 optional coach. The team must create their own costume set (team shirt, shorts and shoes)
in accordance with the country represented. Please provide the color code of every unique color used in the costume set.
2. Each match will be under the watch of an umpire selected by the tournament host(Basil). The match umpire has full authority to enforce rules on AND off the
court. He/She will inform all players of the rules before play. The umpire may make adjustments to matches under certain circumstances beforehand. The host
holdssimiliar
authority, but ultimately the umpire holds the final say
3. The match is played in a bo3 format (best out of three rounds). Between each round there is a break that will last no more than 5 minutes. This break may be shortened if the players from both teams desire. The matches are scored starting at 0 and go up to 40, but that's actually just four points. From 0, the first point is 15,then 30, then 40, then game point, which wins the round.
4. The match is intended to be of continuity, with no delays. The ball MUST be served within 20 seconds after the end of the previous point. The head umpire may pause the match at ANY given moment in the case of latency issues, mishaps or arguments that are out of his control. It is important to note that players are not obligated to rotate positions after every round or match as it is under the discretion of the coach.
5. Before each match, a whistle test is made to ensure all players can hear the whistle, and a coin toss is made to determine the serving team. The team that loses the coin toss serves first in the next round, while the team that wins the coin toss serves first in the first and third rounds. Sides of the court are assigned by the umpire and host, not chosen by the teams, and will be marked accordingly. At the start of the match, teams must be on their corresponding sides, in their set positions. A single whistle is blown to mark the start of the match. After the first whistle the serving team has 20 seconds to serve the ball. If the team fails to serve the ball within 20 seconds, the opposing team will serve for that round. When the ball goes out of bounds, a whistle will be blown, the score will be adjusted, and the ball will be served again from the same team. Players must hit the ball over the netting, and if they fail to do so, it is counted as a point for the opposing team. If a player serves, and they hit the net, they are allowed one do-over. The round ends when a team hits "game" (1 point after 40). The end of a round will be marked by the umpire blowing his/her whistle three times.
6. Your team may be penalized by an umpire for poor sportsmanship, not complying to rules, arguing, cussing or using racial slurs. The penalty results in an immediate loss of a round, and potential loss of the entire match itself. Multiple offenses may result in suspension from the teams next game, or even a permanent blacklist from all tournaments. If the umpire blows the whistle for any reason at all during a match, teams must cease play.
