Author Topic: What is your favorite video-game?  (Read 3199 times)

This is a really hard subject to give one definite answer on. There are so many games I've played over the years that I have enjoyed.
For the most nostalgic and fun in general, the award goes to Halo 3. I remember way back when when we all played it, YouTube was full of unregistered hypercam and Dreamscape and Paralyzer songs, and let's not forget Breaking Benjamin's Blow Me Away from Halo 2. I had lots of fun playing, particularly in the Forge mode, where I would go into something like Foundry and go deleting everything on the map and then making whatever crazy stuff I felt like making. Yes, there was a time when you had to go around and delete every single piece of the map that you could find while watching your "budget". We actually have had a lot of the Halo games, including CE (on both PC and xbox), 2 (the limited collectors edition in that super cool box, this was a game we spent a LOT of time playing in xbox live back in the day), 3, ODST, Wars, Reach (the collectors edition), Master Chief Collection, 4, 5, the list probably goes on.
Besides the halo games, more recently I've been having quite a lot of fun with sandbox titles like Blockland and Garry's Mod. I like these lots-of-games-in-one kind of games, and much of my time has been spent recently playing these games due to their "unlimited" replay value and their gamemods and communities. I also had quite a lot of fun with games like ROBLOX and Wizard101 back in the day, although I don't play Wizard101 really at all anymore (I still have my account, surprisingly) and while I do occasionally play ROBLOX, I don't play it as much due to the cancer community and the like. Minecraft is also a pretty good sandbox/survival game that I had a lot of fun in after I was introduced to it by my older brother around Beta 1.3. I still like to play Minecraft quite a lot, mainly with modded servers hosted by Blockland forumers, as I like modded servers for how they let you do many more things than the vanilla game. Heck, I even host my own modpacks.
I've also enjoyed more recent shooter games like Splatoon and Overwatch, which are both really darn good games. I haven't really been playing splatoon as I grew bored of it (and now there are no more splatfest events occuring in the game to spice things up), and I play overwatch occasionally.
There are probably many more games that I'm leaving out here, but I don't want to continue this giant wall of text.
TL;DR I don't have one specific favorite video game, but I sure do have some favorite games.

What about CS:S

Well, for 2 platforms I'm gonna tell you my all time favorites.

PC: This is the hardest for me to decide because I've started as a PC gamer and I've always stayed dedicated to it since I was very young. I've tried many games and I love quite a bit. So this one will be really hard for me to decide.

As for a game that had been a flagship game for years on end for the PC gamer types and defined the genre for the time I have to admit that Valve's Half-Life series has been a game that has lasted the test of time for quite a while for me. It introduced one of most heavily modified engines of all time and it was a series that had me captivated for a while and hoping for some closure with episode 3. While some people call the game and engine ancient and horrendous, trust me, for the time it was amazing. Take it from someone who has poured in at least 1000+ hours into the games and a lot of its mods, it's a game that is worth experiencing once, even if it may be as ancient as people make it to be. Also, be sure to play the expansions that came out for the original game, even though blue shift is comparatively bad, opposing force is pretty damn good.

3DS/2DS/N3DS: By far this was the easiest decision I have ever made, seeing as I really don't enjoy handheld games too much, but goddamn Capcom and the Monster Hunter team outdid themselves on this one. Also word of warning, this may change after playing MHX thoroughly, I haven't even dipped into it yet so this is me talking about a game of the series that I have actually played.

By god this game is loving amazing and it's unbelievable that I would spend hours straight playing a game like when I was addicted to the Pokemon games for GBA. Hell, I wanna say the series and game is my all time favorite. The monsters are all challenging, the gameplay is smooth and difficulty seems very fair with the exception of a few monsters. The game has a very sort of Dark Souls relationship with me where no matter how frustrated I get with hunting a monster, failing a mission always seemed like I could've done something to prevent it or just tried something different. Its a game that is epic in every way possible and every monster feel unique. The soundtrack is very well conducted and the Monster Hunter orchestra did as usual, giving encounters that epic hunt feel to them (Don't believe me? Take a listen: https://youtu.be/OIW5eLDpVbM?list=PLldNgdLVBzhL8-7ERNhSh_1odiAfvX6PI Also, example of their live orchestra concerts: https://youtu.be/Vq8_FAOlrzM ). The game is hella long too, leaving me heavily invested into the game. If you want something that will leave you satisfied after playing and something that will challenge pretty much everyone, look no further. My only gripe about the game is that it's not for a console or PC (MH Frontier when for NA?). Also, did I forget to mention 4 player coop is available for the game? No? Yeah... it's a thing and there are even more quests and monster combos in the online mode. Go play this, now.

I might do some other reviews later, but I gotta think up of some games for other platforms or genres that I would consider my favorites.

...expand?

The vanilla game is loving great but the mods turn it into something way ahead of it's time. Unique enemies, unique setting, unique story, really immersive.
forget i need to play this game, i've heard so many good things but i have yet to touch it
