This is why people shouldn't bring things like this to everyone's attention.

any fan project will inevitably get striken down, but as long as its out there then it'll survive through mirrors so people can enjoy it
its not like people should stop making projects just because this happens
also if they never bring it to anyone's attention then whos gonna play it

forget nintendo though

that's a poor attitude to take from this

it would be a sad place if an incredible project like this were to go unnoticed, and the more people know about it the more likely it is to continue to be spread around despite the original source being shut down

i saw a few articles saying it wasn't nintendo who took it down

i dont have the source for this on hand but im p sure its an incredibly angry ex-nintendo employee

I'm not talking about posting it forums and imageboards, I'm talking about posting it in places like Facebook and kotaku where even the most out of touch PR dude can find out about it. You can't always avoid a copyright strike but you can try to evade it for a while.

I'm not really big on Nintendo (only really had the handhelds growing up) so I'm not well attuned with their biggest names (besides mario).
So could someone explain to me why Metroid isn't one of their series they're constantly adding to (like mario, LoZ, Kirby, etc).
It seems weird given how popular the character and series is. Plus they're eager to include the character in things like Smash or the 3DS' Mii Plaza.

Did Metroid just not sell well? Or is a laser-blasting armoured space warrior just not an image Nintendo wants to use anymore?

Well to be fair Indie projects can't really help it if their stuff ends up on Facebook or Reddit if it's popular, because those are social media sites designed for sharing things.
And they have no control over news sites like Kotaku because they scour the social media sites for popular things and will always write articles on them in order to make money.

where it gets spread doesn't matter, the point still stands

it's hard to know for sure but I'd guess that metroid just isn't as popular as mario, zelda, kirby, and the others

Metroid pretty much went dormant after the mediocre reception of Other M, and galactic federation... well just take a look at the dislike to like ratio here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGu3Xe1uUUg

You wouldn't know it from all the Samus 'fan-art' out there. I daresay it's more common than Link/Zelda stuff.

But maybe that's part of the reason why Nintendo leaves it alone.

why does it seem nintendo hates everything that is good

>taking down TAS videos
>ignoring great series
>DMCAing amazing fangames

like seriously wtf at this point it's not protecting the IP it's just being a rooster

Nintendo's official statement about the takedown is as follows:

"Nintendo’s broad library of characters, products, and brands are enjoyed by people around the world, and we appreciate the passion of our fans. But just as Nintendo respects the intellectual property rights of others, we must also protect our own characters, trademarks and other content. The unapproved use of Nintendo’s intellectual property can weaken our ability to protect and preserve it, or to possibly use it for new projects."
