Egalitarianism?
Yeah but egaliatarianism is like super broad. The word doesn't really have a focus so it's a lot harder to be, like, passive instead of active about inequality.
I think the best solution is to just stick with feminist - feminism as it stands right now is mostly made up of activists. Trying to change the word to appeal to the general public is sort of a fruitless endeavour because the general public is passive - so if you're that kind of "sideline supporter" than maybe egalitarian is the only word you need.
What I don't like is poltiically active people calling themselves "egalitarian" because they're trying to distance themselves from feminism. You should just call yourself a feminist / LGBT activist / racial equality activist / whatever. Just because there are bad apples in a movement doesn't mean that you should aggressively avoid a clearer label like that.
I used to be one of those people outspokenly against modern feminism because it felt personally insulting to be blamed for a bunch of white middle-classed chicks having it so hard until I realized both sides of the coin are not groups I want to associate with. Now I think there's a healthy middle ground somewhere that most reasonable people reside where there's a lot less shouting and angered ranting. Who wants to be angry all the time, anyways?
Basically this. I don't understand how people don't just get exhausted thinking about this stuff all the time. Also, I'd argue that when minorities/oppressed people are angry/shouting, it might be because a political issue has a direct, personal effect on their life and their community.
While I resent the "extremes are horrible" political idea, often times when you take a completely static, immovable stance on something, you're ignoring legitimate rationale for the other side. If people just tried to be more receptive instead of shouting over eachothers heads, the world would be a lot better.
