the simpsons got stale because it now relies on current events and topics to make the episodes seem fresh and relevant. regular show's plots have nothing directly to do with trying to stay relevant

All shows eventually get stale and the writers eventually run out of ideas/get tired of it and want to move on to other things. That said Regular Show has been going on for 6 years now and that's a damn good run for a show.

Family Guy is getting to the same point as the Simpsons but it's still loving hilarious. If Simpsons was ever actually funny it might have stayed relevant longer.

Watch season 7, there's a whole plot with continuity about a dome. I'm not spoiling what happens but it's a cliffhanger in the season finale

The show was using the same formula for each episode, it got stale and expired. I really did enjoy the show in the first few seasons though.
