The premise is that this was an attempt to portray the game in a way in which it was not. By continuing to purchase this product, you are further supporting a company, publisher and developer, to continue these practices. You are basically telling them it's okay because you bought it. Luckily we have many more space sims and games that continue to develop and provide more scope than no man's sky. Elite Dangerous, Star Citizen, Space Engineers, Kerbal Space Sim, and now Call of Duty Infinite Warfare. Luckily as a consumer, you have many choices, be a smart consumer and help the majority by choosing the best product.

like ive never played it and have only heard what journalists say about it, but i dont hate it. jesus christ is it normal to develop such a hate boner for something like this? like is this typically the reactions people have towards a game that goes through this? forgetin ridiculous lol

People are sheep and they just loving love mob mentality.

It's like when a movie comes out with a bad review and no one watches it. Sheeple seem to forget that reviews are personal opinions and their opinion may vary from the reviewer.

Excuse me?

Sheeples were watching the female ghostbusters only because you were loveist if you didn't watch it.

By not watching it, shows I don't care if people think I'm loveist.

It's loveist to not watch the new crappy female ghost busters film?

That was their entire marketing strategy.

but don't the people that shelled out the time to make this game deserve the compensation that's rightfully theirs?

like if this game was produced and commercialized with no other intent other than money, then i would agree with you. i would blast this game too if it was purely a cash grab, but it wasn't. it was a game that got over hyped. it's a game they are regularly maintaining. this is obviously a project someone somewhere cares about, and not just because it makes money.

i don't want to endorse false advertising, but id be a hypocrite if i were to hate a product just because of how it's introduced to me. there are so many movies and products that i love that i wouldn't even know about had they not been introduced to me the way they were. it's a common business practice and its been done and will be done for years. it's up to you to use your brain to decipher through the bullstuff to find out if something is good or not

Almost all other game trailers and screenshots either state that it's not gameplay footage or label itself as a "cinematic trailer". It's only a recent trend where companies are claiming pre-rendered videos as actual gameplay.

Companies exist to make a profit, if your offer doesn't out weigh the cost to consumers (value), no one will buy it. In this case, they realized their product wouldn't stand on its own so they used misleading marketing techniques under Sony to capture a wider audience. They themselves chose to be marketed under a AAA publisher (expectation) with the price of $60, consumers then used the information they had, to give reason for purchase. And finally that information turned out to be very misleading or completely false, raising a red flag for the Advertising Standards Authority to conclude that the showcased media continuing to be presented as the actual game was in fact not representative of the game. The developers will suffer no consequences directly from the ASA, but they have tarnished their reputation among the consumer population. This is more devastating than a single lawsuit and settlement. Even if it is a common business practice, it is expected of a consumer to not purchase or further support products from companies who do this.

i think there's a difference between the marketing team and the dev team. sure the dev interviews were misleading but that's probably because the devs had no experience with being really important before and didn't know how to handle public expectations well.

AAGD (ask a game dev) covers this decently well without shifting all the blame off of the dev team. take a look here:

Wonder, out of the 15 people working at their studio, who was the marketer?
Edit: Nice to see more experienced people chiming in on the subject, those articles are decent.

Pretty sure Sony came out and confirmed that Hello Game's didn't have a marketing team at all. The PR strategy was bad because there was none.

>thinking sjw stuff is mainstream

It's like tony lives in a reverse pyroland. Are you sure you're not developing schizophrenia?
