from what i remember 8 or 6 is the standard

4-8 GB is pretty typical for alot of desktops
Its pretty important if youre using a 32 bit OS though, since IIRC 32 bit OS's can only support 4 GB due to limitations with the processor I think (I THINK)

I think the standard has really shifted to 8-16GB, however 4GB and 6GB and such are OK for more low-end PCs that aren't really meant for modern-day gaming in my opinion.
