Author Topic: Rome's End - 505 C.E. - Holy stuff an update!  (Read 9306 times)

The Western Roman Empire has, after centuries of decline, finally taken its last breath, though the Eastern Roman Empire - Byzantium - has remained. In its wake, a multitude of tribes from all range of cultures are competing to take hold of the power vacuum left behind. Take control of one of these competing tribes to reform them into a centralized kingdom, and lead them to victory! Will you follow in Charlemagne's historic footsteps and create the Frankish Empire? Will you unite the British Isles? Or maybe - just maybe - you'll restore the glory that was the Roman Empire...

    Integrity
Rome's End does not have a tech tree, policy list, or similar, nor does it utilize hard numbers for economy and military. However, it DOES have a mechanic called Integrity. Integrity is a measure of how centralized and stable your nation is, and how close your nation is from simply falling apart into isolated barbarians with no ruler. Integrity may be reduced by succession crises, constant war, internal strife, plotting, and more; increasing it is more difficult, and requires being at peace. Increasing integrity may disgruntle the nobility, but it can also help barbarians reform to a feudal kingdom. It is a scale from zero to five, as follows:

    Ø - Anarchy
You are essentially no longer leading your nation.
The monarchy has lost all authority over the people,
and the nation will quickly splinter into individual
bands of barbarians. It is almost impossible to bounce
back from this, so be sure to keep your integrity high.
    I - Collapsing
The monarchy is barely on the verge of falling apart.
The lower nobility is unhappy with the rulership, and
internal strife threatens to tear the nation apart. The
situation is dire, and must be fixed immediately.
    II - Disparate
Although there is certainly bickering among the
nobles, the nation seems to be holding it together for
now. The situation is tenable, but should be improved.
    III - Stable
The nation is stable. There is no immediate risk of
catastrophe, the nobles seem relatively benign, and
there are few single events that could ruin the realm.
That said, things could definitely be better.
    IV - Unified
Not only is the realm unified, but it's been decently
centralized, too. The nobles do not have very much power,
and regions are not particularly autonomous. Improving
beyond this is difficult and will anger the nobles.
    V - Absolute
The nation is essentially an absolute monarchy.
None dare to question your power (resent it though they
may), and even a major crCIA won't damage the realm
too much. This is as stable as it gets.

    Rules

    • Don't be a richard. This includes being an starfish, being a douchebag, and even being a cunt!
    • Don't be an idiot. This includes being a dumbass and means you should use common sense.

Those should be both obvious and sufficient. If you should need more (and hopefully you don't):
    • Do not RP for other nations. Never say you attacked a province and captured it, only that you tried to.
    • RP reasonably; technology should be appropriate to the era, et cetera.
    • I, as the Pope OP, have the final say in all matters.

    And some technical rules:
    • Covert actions can be taken via PM. I would highly prefer you not use Steam for this purpose - the Forum Games Discord is acceptable.
    • Only European nations may be played. Also, see me personally if you want to play as Byzantium.
    • Pick a nation according to your nation RP experience and how busy you will be.

Finally, I may miss updates on some days due to homework. This doesn't mean I'm abandoning the RP, but if I miss a few days in a row, feel free to badger me about it (I deserve it).[/list]

Not sure what you mean by that. Accepted.

Hrethel will be doing stuff in the next 5 years bois.

The low nobles will introduce a new policy for the peasants. The ex-peasants that wanted to become farmers will be given a piece of land from the low nobles aka land owners. The Farmers can build their house on the land and farm their land. In exchange they pay a tax to the land owners by supplying a certain amount of crops or assisting the owners with harvesting their crops.

Also I meant the land that was next to gulf of bothnia and ruled Åland

This will piss off the nobles. Are you sure?

If you wanted the purple one you should've asked for the purple one B)
    (just kidding, I'll change it)

    You're giving their land away.
During the Middle Ages, land was considered more valuable than cash.

    Life's pretty uneventful in Saxony.

    Damnit, well...

New lands will also be acquired from the north to satisfy low nobles.

Previously, the Franks had been fighting the Western Roman Empire in Soissons. Childeric I himself led those battles, but they ultimately failed. However, now that the Empire has fallen, the remnant that is Soissons (led by the Roman commander Syagrius) may be ripe for the taking.

Childeric I begins raising troops for an army, bringing his son and heir Clovis with him and instructing him in military strategy and administration.

    The Pomeranians
480: They have declared WAR on the Prussians!

    481: Battle of Marienburg
The Pomeranians, with a force of 19 regiments, have engaged the Prussians, with a force of 9 regiments.
Each regiment has a 50% chance of adding to that side's combat score. There is a river crossing on this province, so the Pomeranians lose 1 score.
    Pomeranians roll: 9 - 1 = 8
    Prussians roll: 6 = 6
The Pomeranians win, pushing the Prussians back. Next battle, the Prussians will be short 1 regiment for a total of 8.

    482: Battle of Königsberg
The Pomeranians (19 regiments) attack the Prussians (8 regiments). The terrain is wooded (-1 to attackers).
    Pomeranians roll: 12 - 1 = 11
    Prussians roll: 4 = 4
The Pomeranians win a crushing defeat, wiping out 6 Prussian regiments for a total of 2.

    483: Siege of Königsberg
Königsberg is the capital, so it must be lain siege. Sieges are simpler; attacking force is determined as usual (w/o terrain), while the defender is a D6 per fort level. Defenders win in a tie.
    Pomeranians roll: 6
    Prussian Fort rolls: 5
Königsberg is taken. As the Prussian force did not enter combat, it healed back up to 3.

    484: Battle of Wizna
The remainder of the Prussian force (3) is hiding in Wizna. 19 Pomeranian troops attack them, with a -1 terrain modifier due to Woods.
    Pomeranians roll: 5 - 1 = 4
    Prussians roll: 0
    The Prussian army is decimated...

The Prussians will concede to any and all demands.

    The Sveas
    Expansion into Västerbotten
You attempt to usher the population northward and give the nobles new claims. While they appreciate the gesture, you simply couldn't get the population to move. Try again next time... (Hint: higher integrity will help.)

    The Franks
    Childeric I has DIED!
Although he was able to pass on some military knowledge to his son, he will unfortunately not be able to continue those lessons due to a bad case of being dead. There is a silver lining, however. Childeric I had only one son - Clovis I - and so there is no integrity loss from his passing.

    Non-Player Events
King Huneric of the Vandals has DIED!
In his place, his nephew Gunthamund succeeds him. Due to the late king's direct family being mostly dead, and the fact that Gunthamund was never very popular, the Vandals survive this change unhindered.
