Author Topic: What computer viruses did you guys get once?  (Read 4237 times)

Basically, a virus is a program or entity that manifests in a computer and is programmed to either harm the computer or annoy the user.

Worms are viruses that can spread through emails and/or other devices.

Trojans are similar to the Trojan Horse, they are usually contained in seemingly harmless programs, but actually contain harmful code.

Adware are viruses that infects the PC with the most annoying thing on the planet, Advertisements. All of the ads are usually viruses.

Rogue Antiviruses are Viruses posed as Antiviruses that trick the user into downloading a malicious program (itself).

Ransomware are viruses that block the computer from booting by replacing it with a fake FBI screen where the user has to pay a fine. It is a scam.

Spyware are viruses that collects random information from the infected user. They are usually created in foreign countries.

What virus did you guys get back in the past? Post in the comments.

i had cryptolocker a year ago, whole computer was cleared

malware that redirected to research and phishing sites back in like 2010
i actually have regular nightmares about malware so that's fun i guess

I once got a virus that kept putting shortcuts/links to gay research on my computer's desktop repeatedly after I'd delete them. It was kind of hard to explain to the folks.

i've managed to get research ads on my desktop when I was 8

I recently had one that slowed my computer to a halt and installed a bunch of cancerware.

Had to use Combofix to remove most of it. Probably should wipe my hard drive if I want to make sure it's all gone

Adware, it was loving awful and thank god malwarebytes exists bnecause without it that viurs would have killed that PC I used to use. It was a horrible experience there were ads everywhere, on google each search result had an ad right next to it and it was awful.

I remember downloading an image on google images one time and a lot of stuff started going crazy opening popups and virus stuff, spyware, etc. Then Kaspersky came in and said "Virus detected" and gave me the option to kill the virus and it did just that, saved that computer and got rid of the virus.

i'm gonna be a little pedantic here and correct your terminology
malware is a computer program that is intended to do some sort of harm or bad thing to the user
a virus is a piece of malware that tries to spread itself as much as possible by infecting other files and programs on the computer with itself, like a biological virus would
a worm is a piece of malware that also tries to spread itself, but unlike a virus, does not need to attach itself to other programs in order to spread itself. It may work through things like emails, USB drives and a few others.

only very minor adware (which I removed) and a trojan which I immediately nuked when my AntiVirus found it

not sure but the virus like

doesn't let you open any window

I only had two rogue antiviruses and one adware, which I was able to delete.

I even once had the dreaded PC Optimizer Pro on my computer, which I removed.

The two rogue antiviruses were Privacy Protection and Win 7 Security 2012.
I forgot the adware's name.

os x doesn't get viruses but i got the googgle virus
