Author Topic: Honestly, forget rap music.  (Read 12082 times)

"Rap isn't built around the same structures as other genres, of course that makes it stuff"

All these points you are making just make it seem like you are spouting back whatever you heard in your music comp class.

I haven't had any music comp classes yet.

I realized on my own that if you don't change up the sound in your song it's going to be obnoxiously loving repetitive. Anyone can come to that realization, more or less, with enough thought.

Speaking of rap music, I made this video a while ago

https://youtu.be/zTSKRhQ78MA

Looks like someone hasn't listened to Nas. The only rap music that is stuff is modern rappers where they say no words at all, Hopsin demonstrated this and everyone agrees with him. You need to listen to Nas, Mobb deep, Pete rock and CL smooth, Kendrick lamar, J cole, Joyner Lucas and other ones that actually know what the forget they are saying. Travis Scott saying he's going to smoke 90 pounds of weed, shoot up a gang and then forget 40 girls is a bunch of bullstuff and Travis Scott is stuff. Listen to the originals and you'll fall in love with them

But then again it's not for everyone, for example I hate J-pop and country music it's an atrocity but some people do love it just as I love rap

i listen to chance, gambino, lupe fiasco, mgk, eminem, stuff like that. i only listen to ebonics-laden monday-stuff ironically, and agree with op's points

i semi-like rap music if it tells a story,
Hamilton. It's a Broadway show that tells the story of Alexander Hamilton. It's a mix of singing and  rap. It's awesome.

Honestly, I don't listen to rap much (except the rap in Hamilton), but I don't hate it. It's just not usually my style of music.

look im honestly sorry? i havent been here for long; i dont know if theres an age old expectation that we're supposed to magically understand when someone is being sarcastic or not
don't pull that one, path

if kendrick lamar is deep then I can't finish this sentence

99% of the time when people make these topics it's because they only hear what is on the radio. They make no effort to delve in and find the good stuff and immediately write it all off as stuff.

attempt number 2:
imo you shouldn't discount entire genres for being awful since you wind up missing out on a lot of good music if you just avoid one side of the spectrum. unless the genre is vaporwave or end in "-core", in which case is it is total garbage that must be quarantined

You know what I hate? People who act like listening to dadrock and topcharters from the 70s-90s means they have a better taste in music. Like wow good job starfish you listen to music everyone else had decided was good. forget discovering new bands and actually making opinions.

i took two random artists from his list and here are the lyrics from a random hit song of theirs:
coincidentally or not they're both repetitive love songs with no more meaning than "love me"
tears in heaven is not a "love me" song

This kids is why I avoid top charters when I'm listening to music, and why I explore different genres to find what I can't stand, and what I love.

If you're going to boil down entire genres into their top charters for use in your argument you don't have an argument, you can't say you hate all Electro-swing because you don't like Caravan Palace, you can't make an argument on something like rap because you don't like the gangster rap side of it.

Each genre has several sub-genres you should pay attention to if your going to form a true opinion or argument on their overhead genre.

I would like to add that I used to despise "rap" and I found out that what I didn't like was actually the thug/gangster rap the wannabe bloods and crips at my school praised like it was the new messiah, then I found artists that make rap that I enjoy, I love Deltron 3030/Del the Homosapien and I will listen to the occasional Eminem song cause they're loving good.

op is the biggest idiot ive seen this month

just watch this for once https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgJyhKEZ8QU it debunks your entire post

The College Dropout is arguably one of the best rap albums out there, listen to it.
Then when youre done, listen to ANY Kendrick Lamar track, listen to more Kanye, Listen to Tyler, listen to Earl, listen to Drake, listen to Madvillain, listen to The Avalanches, listen to Childish Gambino

then do it again, but dont just listen, understand how they work, what makes them work, only then will you realize what an idiot you are lmao.
generalizing music, loving disgraceful

also mentioning gorillaz as an excuse, really? please. they have rap too.
