there has been some of a trend going on lately in these past months whereas reports to the local police/county sheriff's are reporting clowns being spotted around the evening-night time of the day
there have also been reports of them doing things like stalking or asking children if they want candy, and trying to lure them in with cash. since then, it's spread all the way to ohio from it's originating state
i was going to originally make this topic a good few weeks ago but ive completely forgotten until the kentucky clown topic reminded me
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/ct-clown-complaints-nationwide-20160923-story.htmlPolice are encouraging caution amid a rash of public complaints and social media reports in a number of states of people dressed like clowns and acting suspiciously, even if they think many are knucklehead pranksters or simply bogus.
Real clowns are just plain miffed.
Authorities in Greenville, S.C., were among the first to report a clown-related incident in recent weeks. Late last month, some children reported clowns trying to lure them into the woods with money. Sheriff's deputies found no evidence, however, not even a prankster in a clown suit.
But for whatever reason, since then, people in Alabama, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina and now, Pennsylvania, have reported scary or suspicious encounters with people dressed like clowns.
http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2016/09/people-are-still-dressing-like-clowns-and-scaring-people.htmlReports of creepy clowns first emerged in Greenville, South Carolina, where a red-nosed creepo was reportedly trying to lure kids to a house in the woods by flashing wads of cash. Police looked into the claims and found nothing.
In Alabama, schools across the state ramped up security after reports emerged on social media that clowns were going to attack local high schools with guns. In Ohio, a sheriff’s office is looking for two clowns and advising citizens to contact the department because “we are unsure what their intentions are at this point.” And in Florida, a state where you might think clowns would be among the most normal roadside sightings, police keep getting calls about clowns but are having a hell of time finding them.

(WHSV) -- From South Carolina to Kentucky, and even in the Valley, terrified community members have reported seeing clowns in the woods and along roadways, trying to scare them. Local police say this truly is no laughing matter and could actually result in criminal charges.

Authorities in Glasgow and Bowling Green have received multiple complaints from residents there about people dressed in clown costumes scaring members of the public.
The Glasgow Police Department has received two complaints, and both the Bowling Green Police Department and the Warren County (Kentucky) Sheriff's Office responded to clown-related calls earlier this week, the Bowling Green Daily News reports.
The worst part: This isn't just happening in Kentucky.
According to the paper:
In a Pennsylvania town, police received reports of clowns yelling at children and scaring them. In Alabama, a school was placed on lockdown after a social media threat of a clown invasion. In Georgia, an 11-year-old girl was caught with a knife and told authorities she carried it to protect herself from clowns. Those reports were all just in the last two days.

PORTSMOUTH, OHIO (WSAZ) -- Portsmouth Police say the clowning trend has spread to their area.
According to a release, police say they received a report Thursday night of a person dressed as a clown in the city, holding an axe and staring at bystanders.
"That's something that we want to deter here real quickly," Portsmouth Police Capt. Lynn Brewer said.
"If you're going to engage in this activity, you better be very cautious because if you break the law we will take enforcement action against you," Brewer added.

clown sightings have been springing up across the virginia-south carolina are, and have been spreading since then to neighboring states, and even to southern ohio, now. incidents have been reported, like i said above, of them doing stalking, stepping onto people's lawns & backyards, offering children candy and cash, etc. nobody really knows why they're there, so it's all been left to speculation. the most i've seen are theories of it being another fad going around of people wanting to scare others, or viral marketing for IT
what do you guys think it is? another trend/fad? viral marketing for the new IT? i think it's probably just another trend
