Author Topic: Sure seems like Apple doesn't like ports.  (Read 5474 times)

how could anyone think that removing compatibility with modern ports is a good idea

I can see the need to replace basic USB and HDMI ports with thunderbolt as they have a faster response time
why do we need to replace usb 3.0 so fast? there's literally no reason that i can see that we need to replace it.

Lol Apple sure does love to push the thin-ness design even though it's starting to cripple the usage of their own products and lowering consumer satisfaction

gg apple

thunderbolt is actually extremely fast

i think thought that its a stupid idea to limit just to thunderbolt though.

i mean we're still in the age where USB is growing rapidly.

Every time we watch a movie on the TV we have to use my moms windows laptop which is slow as stuff. She always bitches about how slow it is and how macs are so much better. But guess what? We sure as stuff can't use my brothers macbook air because theres no loving HDMI port. So it's PC or bust.

Wheres your god now maccigarettes?

Anyway, calm down:

The updated Thunderbolt 3 now supports speeds up to 40 gigabits per second, four times faster and with twice the video bandwidth of any other cable, while still being able to supply power. With its full support for USB 3.1 it delivers power based on the USB spec, able to push 100 watts for notebook charging and deliver 15 watts for bus-powered devices. Thunderbolt 3's 40Gbps also allows for dual 4K monitor support over a single cable, as well as speedy 10-gigabit Ethernet networking.

The port supports the latest generation of USB devices. Yeah, USB 3 and earlier versions won't fit, but it's the same deal with the iPhone swap to the Lightning connector from a while ago, at first everyone will be pissed off and there will be that confusion of "Do you have a cord?" "Yeah." "Ah, man, I got a new macbook, can't use your mouse" except less annoying because instead of a charging cable it's just a periphery device. Also, we're talking about a laptop here: who plugs periphery devices into laptops nowadays? I use my USB port for one thing: plugging in a flash drive to transfer music to my DJ turntables. Aside from that, I don't think I have ever used them. And guess what, I don't even need to use it for that if I don't want to, because it's 2016 and my DJ turntables can sync over wifi to my computer without needing a USB drive or other cable to connect them. Just like printers, mice, keyboards, external hard drives, and any other common periphery device.

>claims it's overpriced but doesn't know anything about microeconomics

Agreed though, I'm ditching the iPad this winter and getting the new surface.

Also, Apple is overpriced for a good reason, my brother uses an apple dextop computer and has 32 gb of RAM and two processors, it costs a forget ton more to build/buy a computer with the same specs
Are you serious or is this a dumb troll?

As much as I dislike this, I gotta admire their balls.

unfortunately, because apple has such a big fanbase of people who don't know much about tech/get apple products as a fashion accessory, most people will gobble this up regardless of what it lacks simply because it's the newest thing from apple

I think that Apple is one of those companies that is a hit or miss.

It's a hit for their die hard fans 100% of the time.

ok if you want one thunderbolt port i guess that's okay but it's not a full blown replacement, usb does what it's supposed to do best.

thunderbolt can replace our current video solution and MAYBE our charging/external drive port.

it is by no means a peripheral port replacement which was what USB always intended to be.

Apple loves to make everything themselves. If they didn't make it they will not put it into their devices (except for the headphone jack). That's why Apple is terrible in my opinion. Want to make something cool for Apple using their lightning port? Or some other port they made that's only available for Apple products? Too bad, you have to pay so much to get the resources and you have to give some of your profit to Apple for each product you sell that you use their lightning charger (or other ports) with. Buying all these adapters is more profit for Apple.
