Author Topic: Blockland - What's Changed, and My Thoughts  (Read 7975 times)

Well, my point throughout this thread is, Badspot isn't going to do Jackstuff to help us, and the community is just laying around waiting for the hat update. The problem is that the Hat Update is like Half-Life 3, It's not happening, it's a meme.

If we're going to want to make blockland more creative, WE have to be the ones to do it, and I have thrown out some ideas on what we could do.
well, this has always been the case. badspot is here not to provide us content, but to provide us updates and needed bugfixes to the engine. yes, there's a bunch he hasn't fixed (and if you were a coder, you'd know some things he could change to the existing engine to help improve it), but he has little incentive to work on it if its not going to net him a return.

blockland itself is not a popular style of game - its a pure sandbox. sure, minecraft is a sandbox too, but it has the initial survival mode to grab interest. in blockland there literally isn't anything.

maybe if badspot included more default gamemodes and made the gui a little more directed into getting players in servers with gamemodes/starting their own server with a gamemode, would this game become more popular. new players have no idea as to what content exists - creating rpg's or whatever doesn't really work since the existing playerbase gets bored quickly, and people never like joining empty servers.

I've got an idea.
What if we created an addon, that had fake players, AI, until more people joined?

i don't see a point in this
you might as well join a server with bots running around

Well Smart Bots would be better, and as people join, the bots would dissapear because people would take their place.

what do you mean by smart bots???
nobody is going to spend their time developing artificial intelligence for blockland for a near-pointless add-on

aaaand what would those bots do exactly?

Blockland is Dead!!!
OGM! no it isn't!!!1!1one!

OT:
I wasn't here before S&S, but I tried StaticMaps. It wasn't all that impressive. It was nice, but I felt like it stifled creativity by having only one of each space to build in. Only 1-3 people can build on the shelf, dresser, etc., so after a while you all have to build on the floor or the dresser. Have you seen the Blockland Classic Mod? It looks neat, I'm going to try it.

is that even possible

for someone that knows nothing about coding you seem to have a lot of coding related expectations of the community

the difference is that steve jobs's ideas were, you know, based in reality and weren't destined to either be completely impossible or fall flat in seconds

(in a relative sense)
